The Ottawa Animal Defense League will be holding a demonstration against the use of animal slaves for the purpose of entertainment, exploitation and greed at this years Circus Mondo in Gatineau Quebec.

The purpose of this event is to bring awareness to circus goers that by buying a ticket to a circus they are contributing to a life time of misery, pain and needless suffering to animals who would other wise be living a natural life in their own environment.

"But for the use of physical punishment by,
 fear of their oppressors,
animals would never be apart of a circus"
"Richard Prior"

The picture you see above is Limba the oldest female Asian elephant in Canada with her two traveling companion camels . This picture was taken in St Johns  Newfoundland in 2008.

In 2008 While traveling  to another show. Limba and her two traveling friends were in a 15 truck crash which resulted in their transport  trailer turning over on the highway.

A letter published by the Winnipeg Humane Society

In 2002  The Winnipeg Humane Society  has alerted the City of Winnipeg to a public safety risk of allegations of animal abuse after Limba the elephant  was allegedly beaten following an attack on her trainer at the Assiniboine Park Zoo.

According to two sources who are unwilling to speak publicly, Limbas owner flew into Winnipeg from his home in Ontario immediately following the attack  on July 21 2002, purchased a whip and a electric prod a (hot shot) at a local livestock supply company and beat the elephant as a reprisal for the attack.

Sources say the attack follows two previous attacks by Limba on her trainer in Ontario.

Limba a 7,000 (then )  pound Asian elephant continues to perform shows  at zoo's and circuses. in which children are encouraged to touch and pet her.

Attacks like this are not isolated incidents. since 1990 over 105 people have been killed and over 390 seriously injured by wild animals in captivity, including elephants.
"Wild animals like Limba  are powerful and unpredictable, and have no place in shows like this ."  according to Vicki Burns.

Executive Director of the Winnipeg Humane Society. "Its cruel and dangerous to the public".

Sadly beating an elephant or other wild animal for entertainment purposes in zoo's and circuses is still considered the norm in 2011

Skipping to 1964 Asia

Limba was born In Asia in 1964 she is now 47 years old.( Average life of an elephant in Canada is 22) according to Zoo Check

She was taken from her mother and herd at the age of one. Shackled , chained , put into bondage and beaten by her abductors then shipped to North America. Some where along the line (some guess) Limba was not used to perform and became a sort of rogue slave. Mike Hertzberger (Owner of the Bowman Ville Zoo) got a hold of her and who knows just how many beatings poor Limba has had to endure.
As we will see at Circus Mondo .Limba at her old age of 47 and in poor health, is still rented out to travel an arduous circus journey thousands of miles across Canadian provinces in a cramped semi trailer to perform outrageous tricks , all the while confined by shackles and electric fences when not performing.

Not just for Limba but for the tiger, jaguar, primates, lion, camels, horses, ponies, and domestic house cat  who normally tour with circus Mondo, but for ALL animals used, abused and tortured for this type of cruel and despicable industry we hope that we will see you this coming Saturday May 14
