Great news to keep you motivated to continue working out in these interesting times.

The OTC is having a virtual Triathlon.  All you need to do is to complete one of these two distances in one day to have your name entered in a draw to win an LCBO $30 gift card.  Because we can use the LCBO right now.  We have two $30 gift cards from Todd that will be drawn randomly among all participants who complete either of these triathlon distances:

10 min Strength                           15 min strength
15 km bike                                   20 min bike
3 km run                                       5 km run

How do I complete the swim portion, you would do that by completing a strength exercise for the allotted time.  Either one of your own or one of these from the OTC and Ottawa Swimming resources.


As an added bonus Adam from Velofix is donating a bike tune-up for the best participant of finisher picture which will be drawn from all pictures for the virtual tri and du.
We also ask that you post your pictures on the OTC Facebook page.

The deadline is Sunday, June 21 at 10:00pm and yes you can complete a tri as well as a du to give you more chances to win.

Sounds good.....could I substitute 15 minutes on the rower rather than strength?(that way I have a distance)

Question: For long course tri, I assume it is 20 km bike, not 20 minutes?
Also, can a spin class substitute for the bike portion?

I think for both long duo and tri you mean 20 km (not minutes) on bike???

Congrats to TTP Tues group who did the strength & spin component of the OTC Virtual Triathlon together.
Phil, Andrew, Nicole, Marianne, Robin, Julie, Jake, Brian, and Paul did 15mins of strength and 49mins of spin (which I think can count for 20km of biking), and here is our "Finish Line" photo:

I did my virtual tri today.  What a gorgeous day.  Did Georgie's athletic class for the 40 min, biked the parkway for 20 k, and then ran for 5k, along the river.  Did not do it for time, as I am recovering from shoulder and pelvic issues, just went out and enjoyed.

Good news, well sort of.

Due to the continuing COVID-19 restrictions we have changed the deadline for the OTC virtual Tri and Du and for added effect all participants will receive a t-shirt for their completion.

That's right the "All my races were cancelled so I completed the OTC virtual Tri/Du" t-shirt.

The deadline has now been changed to July 15 so we have added an extra three weeks so get out there and stay busy.

Trying to post this again - sorry for any duplication but I initial try was blocked as I tried via gmail account.

Tri was carried out yesterday (21 Jun) by noon - yes, the temp was 27 with humidex of 33 but kinda felt like 50!!! Actually, it was not terrible but I did lose 3 lbs of sweat even though I drank 750 ml during the events. 
Bike was 15.2 km, 37 min, 24.5 kph
Run was 3.01 km, 17:18 min, 5:45 pace.
Weights, 16 min, 12 sets.

Do I need to post the pics on FB for the draw?

I completed the virtual OTC long Tri two Sundays ago (June 14), as follows:
- 15 minutes of strength (the OTC 10 video)
- 30 km bike ride - YES, I totally misread the clear instructions and did 30 km instead of 20 km (bike time was 1:15, including a few stops at red lights and intersections, which of course I stopped for since it wasn't a closed course race circuit) ;-)
- 5 km run (which turned into a run-walk since my quadriceps were really cramping up throughout. 'Run' time was over 35 mins as a result).

Participant photos: #1) selfie near my bike finish line in the Experimental Farm (the 30 km/hour sign not quite a true reflection of my average bike speed, but whatever); #2) since there was no OTC tent for me to get a post-race chocolate milk, I headed directly to the Tim Horton's across from my run finish line for a post-race chocolate milk - a true Covid-19 era experience since I had to walk through the drive through to get it; #3) the Lightning Bolt while enjoying my cold choco milk. 

Fun times! I'll try to do another virtual race before July 15.

Five years ago, on June 13, 2015, my friend Joanie Portelance Galarneau and I participated in our first triathlon, the Ottawa River Triathlon.  As a way to mark that auspicious event, yesterday we got together at Britannia Park and completed a "Virtual" Ottawa River Triathlon - Covid - 19 Edition!

We swam 260 meters, completed in 6:16.  Our bike ride was 15 kms, in a time of 42.26.  The run was a leisurely 3 kms, in 19:30.  

Of course, following our Tri we took the obligatory post-race photos!  Look at Joanie rockin' her OTC orange!

In! kept forgetting to post, but done June 29! 

Bike - 16K Trail ride. Super bright day! Could barely see to take the picture.  
Run - 3k
Swim -- SAM with Geordie et al. Yup. Did the swim part of out order.

Called off planned ride with Coach Todd, because who wants to ride putside in heavy downpours when Environment Canada is warning up to 100mm of rain today. Sorry, Coach, I will literally take a raincheck. 😁 So in lieu of our ride I decided to finally do the OTC virtual tri today, indoors. 15min strength + 20km ride on Zwift + 5km run on Zwift.

I left it almost to the last minute, but got the tri done today!
20 minute swim at Blanchett (750 m), long transition driving to P8, then 26 km bike ride (1:18), then 5 km run (30:53). Finished off with a cappuccino at Les Saisons in Chelsea!

Well, if procrastination were an OTC event, I'd be part of the High Performance group!

I did a solo version of the Early Bird Tri on Saturday, May 16th:
- 30 minute upper body workout
- 30 km bike
- 5 km run

The only goal was to finish with a smile ... mission accomplished! Thanks to OTC for inspiring so many virtual events and real accomplishments amongst our members! Keep on keepin' on, everybody!
