What is the advantage of joining a 'cybermall' as opposed to
just buying a state-of-the-art website? From what I have heard, it
is possible to directly buy into the Internet and get on many search
engines if the the web page is designed properly. What then is the
advantage of being in one of the cybermalls that are springing up?
These malls promise to increase traffic to the websites within them,
through advertising, which is the main advantage that I can see to
joining them. The question is, though, do they work? Does advertising
a cybermall really drive customers to ones 'store' within it?
I have my doubts because people can already use webcrawler or yahoo
to peruse the WWW. Why bother clicking into a mall? If anyone knows
more on this subject, please let me know, or where I can find info
on this subject.

Thanks,

I R

You are correct.

Cybermalls are by and large a marketing technique, and in my opinion they are
over rated. Most are like having a billboard in your basement, it may look
nice but not many people are going to see it.

IN fact a "state of the art" website is overkill in most cases. What really
drives the web, and will drive it for a long time after the dust settles is
providing people with information. You have to give people a reason to come to
your site. Making them wait a minute or two while your browser loads excessive
graphics is just going to send them elsewhere.

You might want to read what I've written in this month's MONITOR magazine
available at most computer places in the area. Look for the article called
"Paper Paradigm" and you'll see why most web sites don't work as well as they
should.

Cheers!

Fred

What drives the Web and makes a +really+ successful page is brilliantly
selected HTML links.
