Hi guys. I spent the better day trying to setup a home network for my
neighbour who just got Sympatico ADSL.

One machine has 2 NIC cards (one for Sympatico, one for the LAN). The
second machine only has one network card. The plan was to use Win98se net
sharing to give the second machine internet access using a cross over cable.

BUT, it seems that the access manager will not function with 2 network cards
installed. When NIC1 is working and NIC2 is disabled the Access manager can
access the internet. When NIC1 and NIC2 are enabled, the access manager
becomes disabled.

Any ideas?

Nicholas

Make sure Access Manager is seeing the right Ethernet card. Create a new
profile with both cards engaged, it will ask you which one to use.
Also to use ICS there are a couple tricks with Access Manager, change it
from Private API to DHCP in advanced properties. If you need how to's I
have them listed on the Sympatico Access Manager page of my site listed
below.

I think I've resolved the problem, at least partially. It seems that Access
Manager _cannot_ handle a machine with two identical network cards. (same
brand/model). By changing one NIC, everything works as expected.

You may want to add that fact to you FAQ. The cards I was using were Aopen
325s 10/100.
