If you're looking for insurance, Liberty seems to be an unfriendly
provider. I'm now looking for insurance for my cars and bikes. Does
Primmus do cars too?
James.
Primmum does both cars and bikes. They were $100 more expensive than State Farm
for my 2002 Dodge Caravan but several hundred cheaper for my 1990 Honda VFR 750
and about the same for my 2001 Suzuki RM 250.
The only problem I have had with Primmum was when I attempted to set up a direct
monthly payment for my car premium. DON'T DO IT. First they set it up on someone
else's bank account, then they withdrew 3 times the scheduled payment from my
account, then they claimed to have no record of the withdrawal. Fortunately by
bank (CS-COOP) was very helpful and faxed Primmum proof of the withdrawal and
then blocked any further withdrawals (of any amount). Primmum took so long to
sort it out that I got pissed off and moved my car insurance to State Farm
(which already had my house and had demonstrated the ability to properly
administer a monthly payment).
Good Luck and let us know if you find an alternate source with competitive
rates,
Chris
I only have my bike with them now, but will probably move my car there
when the policy renews.
Here is their website. www.primmum.ca

Since we all know motocrossers are all Pastrana/Carmichael acrobats
with more lives than a black cat we can assume that rates would be low.
The TTR Play bike is intended for the newbie / entry level rider with a
more broad focus and obviously less performance tuned... i.e turns slower
stops less quickly and is heavier (when it lands on you)
Insiders at the Insurance Adjusters Association of Canada probably have
done the math and there are more TTR riders pranging themselves off
of rocks and trees than RM users (who remain on the track and pay
their own damages)
Makes sense to me

Yes they do have a list (unfortunate isn't it...). However, their
quote for my non black-listed bike was approximatly 60% lower than
Primmum/State-Farm/JD. (No R's in my bike designation I guess...) I'm
not sure whether they have a prime reputation or not, but for what I'm
saving a year I can hardly afford not to deal with them.
BTW, my quote from Liberty came, for some reason, with an entire
spreadsheet of bikes, black-listed and all, along with rate-groups,
etc... I figure it must be public info...? On that theme, anyone
interested can contact me offline. Remove the "nospam_" in the

The reason I started dealing with them in the first place about a
dozen years ago was they had great rates. Then they refused to insure
my >10yr old Nighthawk after insuring it for a few years. I took it
apart and took the insurance off it since it was in pieces When I put
it back together (1 year later) they wouldn't cover it. Ok, so I
needed a new bike anyway. Now they do this.
I'm glad you got a good rate from them. When they quote, they usually
do a competitive job but if I'm going to insure everything with one
company to get an overall good rate and only have to pay one place
then these guys aren't it. I see this list as a bad business decision
in the extreme (for us motorcycle people anyway).
I've heard reasons for increases and restrictions from accident
payouts are up; to it's a consequence of the WTC towers being
destroyed and now they're hurting 'cause they had to pay. Gee, so
sorry. They insured them (took the risk) and lost, why the hell am I
paying for it in my auto/bike insurance. Are terrorists now training
on dirt bikes?
Primmum changed their quote from morning to afternoon ($129 in the
morning, $267 in the afternoon) and State Farm just couldn't get the
paperwork done 'cause, darn it, they were just too busy. Instar took
care of the insurance (through Kingsway) within about 15 minutes after
I got there. They were cheaper than Primmum by $38 too ($229). State
Farm has the record low price of $72 - though come to think of it they
quote by 6 months for both cars and bikes, so maybe that was $72/6mos,
or $144/year. Either way they were least expensive. They just
wouldn't take my money.

I'd be interested in receiving the blacklist. I've only heard there
were "literally hundreds" of bikes on the list from the agent.
Perhaps posting the list here (or on a web page) would help people
decide whether they should even bother calling them.
As a bit more info, Kinsgway REQUIRES you to have a valid M/C license
(M1, M2, M) before they will insure you for offroad only (where you
don't need a license at all). State Farm REQUIRES you to have a car
with them as well (tying policies like this is apparently illegal),
and Liberty Mutual REQUIRES you to take the Canada Safety Council's
Gearing Up course to qualify for insurance.
Still pissed at the insurance industry. It's not like any of this
will change their minds. They have a monopoly and we are required by
law to buy into the monopoly.
James.
