As most of you are aware, CANWEST have taken over this service and are
planning on eliminating it on April 1st.
This is a not good! and we should let CANWEST know that this is not right.
We have a good e-mail address that is firmly established. From what I can
see (and I am not a techy) is that if you do not log onto your new
canada.com at least once a month... the account will be deleted.
My current use of ottawa.com is for forwarding my mail (aka alias) and does
not require me to log on to ottawa.com. For myself (and several others I
have spoken with) we use the Ottawa.com forwarding/alias service so that we
can provide an address that does not change every time you change providers.
I am not talking about using specified mailbox space on a server..... just
interested in having my mail re-directed.
Action required:
1) All users of ottawa.com should contact CANWEST
E-MAIL TO
JDela...@corporate.southam.ca
feed...@canada.com
emails...@canada.com
and express yourself regarding the
discontinuance of the ottawa.com service
2) All readers should review their address books and forward this users of
ottawa.com that may not read this newsgroup and not be aware of the impact
of the change. (ie you have to contact everyone and give your new address,
get new business cards made or letterhead, inform all retailers such as
Chapters.ca .....etc...). Please post this message wherever you feel it
can get exposure/visibility
3) We(ottawa.com users) should determine what forum (newsgroup or the
like) that we can use to communicate the progress and to accumulate our
own mailing list of concerned users.
4) Techies are welcome to give their comments/opinions on the inner
workings of a mail system or redirecting system in order to have some
knowledge when we communicate with CANWEST (ie. requirements of having a
redirection service.
5) Each user who would like to maintain ottawa.com should identify how
they are using the ottawa.com so that we accurately determine the action for
different levels of "service". Perhaps these elements below could be a
starting point.
UserName:
# of year with ottawa.com:
Details of use with ottawa.com:
6) Legal experts (if any are willing to look at this) could give insight on
this type of electronic bullying with the intention of forming a monopoly
while requiring alot of personal information from users.
7) I can communicate with CANWEST on the issue but have no experience in
lobbying.... if someone does and wishes to form a group, I would be open to
that.
ALL OTHER IDEAS, THOUGHTS, COMMENTS are welcome.
Stay tuned!
