getting good value when shopping for computer parts in the Ottawa area. Even
the places I have located in the Shopping Malls are grossly overpriced.
New CD-RW and DVD-CD-RW and DVD-RW can be purchased much cheaper from
Computer Stores, rather than Retail stores such as Future Shop and Best
Buys.
About the only thing competitive in computer parts at Retail Stores is
printers and scanners (both bought in extreme volumes). The following links
are not Local (Ottawa) but even with Shipping Costs included, they likely
beat even some of the local computer stores.

This is not Mail Order Shopping, but real stores you can walk in and buy
from. The cost of shipping is based on weight. In many cases, it has been
cheaper to have an item shipped from Nova Scotia, than buy locally in
Ottawa, but even in Halifax, Future Shop can't even compete with Wal-Mart,
and these computer stores are walking distance from both.
So, what does the Ottawa Market hold? Are there any REAL computer stores
here, or does everyone like to spend twice as much at Future Shop and Best
Buys?

The Flat Planet is a terrible computer store. They don't even carry any
stock. You walk in there, and if you wanted an Asus motherboard, they would
have to order it for you. On top of that, they charge a higher price than
the computer stores listed above. The Flat Planet is an INTERNET CAFE.
Just stick to a real computer store and don't shop at the Flat Planet.
I've talked to the owner of the Flat Planet and he knows way less than the
employees at the other computer stores. Since he moves less merchandise and
does not stock the product, if you ask him for information about a
particular item, he won't know because he doesn't carry it.
Note to HugBill - I don't know who that guy is that is flaming you in the
newsgroup, but you know what, he is right, you don't really know that much
about computers and the advice that you give out is SOMETIMES wrong and/or
misguided.
