Celeron 900MHz RAM 384MB
30GB HD ethernet modem 56kbit/s
DVD-ROM 13" LCD display
PCMCIA slot A/C adaptor
Windows XP Home with COA sticker
Modem connects at 50 kbit/s at cottage
Dead battery
Runs well on A/C power, Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux
The RTC (CMOS) battery under the keyboard was broken,
so I wired in 2 AA batteries to keep the date / time.
It looks ugly but has advantages:
1) sits up on the AA batteries allowing better air circulation for
cooling
(like most laptops, the air intake is on the bottom).
2) AA cells will last much longer than the tiny button cell .
3) ugly means it's less likely to be stolen :-)
$99.
