Hello,
Our K6's come one step away from AMD and come with a full one year
warranty. They are guaranteed not to be remaked. Do a search on Atic in
Deja News. At least before you send people to Atic, you should let them
make a truly informed decision.

Actually,
According to Computer Dealer News, Ottawa is the best place to buy your
computer goodies currently. Prices overall are quite a bit lower then
the rest of the country. As a comparison, I'll show you what the Ottawa
prices are for various CPU's:
>

> >> AMD K6 200MMX........$499
Ottawa price: $429.00 SAVE $70.00!

As you can see, all the favourite CPU's are much lower priced right here
in Ottawa. You might even find lower prices. No hassles with mail-order
either.

US Mail order price, $250 US ($350 CDN).

US Mailorder price, $200 US ($280 CDN).

US Mailorder price, $350 US ($490 CDN).

Well, first of all, these Ottawa prices are considerably lower
then anything I've seen advertised in Ottawa (by about $100-$150 on
average), but for arguments sake, let's assume they're accurate.
Still up to $80 more then what mail order houses are selling these
chips for. Agreed, there are some potential problems with buying
chips from mail order houses, and if the difference were small, I'd
buy locally, but for me, that $80 is another 16 megs of RAM. Anyway,
FWIW I don't think that this will be a permanant thing. What I've
found is that it just takes a lot longer for computer componant prices
to fall in Ottawa as compared to mail order houses, usually by about a
month. In the last month, CPU prices have fallen dramatically, as
they're likely to continue to do until the end of Aug.

My price list does not contain Those Tyan model #'s
Secondly, The ASUS board I sell is the TX97E, not the TX97.
(There is a difference)
Also, my products are fully warranted, and I provide my customers with
replacement usually within 24hrs, on business days.
Competitors may beat me on some prices, but overall I'm competitive
enough to have my customers very pleased. If you really want to do some
research, you'll find that Computer Dealer News is right. Ottawa at this
time, overall, has the best prices. Competition at the supplier level
here in Ottawa has kept prices extremely competitive, unlike in years
past. Your local dealers have, overall, been able to keep prices at a
level where they are considered to be the lowest in Canada (overall)
True enough, we have the PST. My mail-order clients outside the province
don't have to pay it either. The trade-off is support for local business
and quick turn-around on warranty claims.
Factor in the savings on CPU and other prices, you will come out ahead.

Well, try uvision, or pricewatch, or the motherboards and chips
newsgroups, retailers like Sybercom, Carl Industries, etc., etc.
Generally, the local resellers such as Hans, Compunation, or Ziggy etc.
are competitive, if not cheaper in some circumstances. Try beating
Compunation's 6x86 CPU prices, or Hans price for a Intel Vx board by
Houston - good luck.

The best competition is from Canadian sources, such as in the Toronto
Star, or Atic. At times they have lower prices first, but Ottawa
normally gets them within a week or two.

I did a lot of research before going to Florida this Feb., and didn't buy
a thing down there. The savings, if there were any, were on a very
limited number of items, and not worth the long distance hassle. Many
items were the same price, but in U.S. funds. The exchange plus shipping
are hard to overcome.

The only advantage I see is if you are looking for something not many
local dealers carry - such as Rendition or 3Dfx video cards.

The reason for that is the product goes there first. Local dealers there
pounce on it before it filters out here. By the time it gets here, the
initial high price has evaporated (Like the K6-166 from AMD)
I deal with suppliers from coast to coast. Toronto/Montreal used to have
the best deals. Competition has become so fierce in Ottawa that it is
now, argueably, the area for the best prices.

I bought from the U.S. wholesalers from time-to-time. A real hassle for
RMA's. Back and forth across the border, etc. A real pain. I only do it
for very select items now.

There are many other neat products south of the border. Items like value
priced MPEG encoders, etc. T'is true, but what can you do?
I have done my best to provide excellent prices, which I'll continue to
do. It's a job-and-a-half to keep sourcing though. What we need in
Ottawa is a big outfit like Ingram Micro or Merisel to save on shipping
cost and RMA time.
