HiI believe the paint brush tool in adobe animate is either broken or has a severely bad intended UI. I have spent 1+ days trying to get it to work to no avail, and I have found articles showing that the code is "Deprecated". Basically, I go to to the brush library to add custom brushes to paint with. I double click to add to document, however, the brush is never active -- my output when I draw is always the same dynamic brush, and I have no otpion to use any custom brushes. I go into the properties tool for the brush or the dynamic brush and it never gives me stroke options or style options. What do I do!? You'll notice that even though double I clicked on "Caligraphy 1" to add it to the document, I still got a normal dynamic brush, and, I have no actual options anywhere that I can find to actually change the stroke options or the brush style. When I click on fluid brush in the top right too nothing happens. I'm so confused and beyond frustrated. Need help.

I'm actually having the same problem. My lines when I draw are very pixelated and I can't seem to change the brush settings to smooth it nor change it to a custom brush. I added a picture below of my screen. I have the smoothing to 100 and Im using the brush tool but it doesn't change anything. Can someone help?

The Fluid brush and Classic brush are fill based brush tools. The brushes available in Brush Library (Art and Pattern brushes) works on the stroke. Please use a Paint Brush tool to draw with the brushes available in Brush Library.

Here's the video of the problem I'm having. I still have the problem regardless if I use the painttool brush or the classic brush. No matter what I do, the brush stroke stays the same and it's pixalated. It's still doesn't smooth and I can't use any of the brushes in the library. I'm not sure what to do.

Hi - from the video i could see that the seelcted Brush is not getting seelcted as a Stroke Style in Properties panel when Paint Brush is used. Have you double clicked the brush in Brush Library? Also can you please check whether the brush is getting listed in the stroke style drop down in PI?

ok I was able to use the different brushes. thank you! as for my other question, in the video, the smoothing is not working? I don't know if that's how it's suppose to look like or if it's pixelated? Is there a way I can tell?

In the bottom left of the tools is a three dots button. That lets you load in other tools that are not showing at the moment. I think that by default two of the brush types are showing, but you may be looking for the third brush type. See this screenshot to see if it helps.

Hi - Classic Brush is a fill based brush and it doesnt draw strokes. If you are looking at dawing strokes then use Paint Brush tool which you can drag and drop from the Edit tool bar to main tool bar as described by Colin in the above thread.

Thats it. My dumb app cant login to my account to install the other items i purchased. No matter what i do, it comes back with a time out. Which is wrong. I can log in 6 times before it times out, on any browser, yet it cant login.

Hmm i dont understand this editor. I dropped the .afassets file for each of the things i downloaded and it said they were added to assets. so they arent brushes. so how do i use them? Someone should update the instructions.

From the topic's title I assume this texture.jpg is meant to be used for a brush. If yes, you can select an existing or create a new image brush (Brush Panel > burger menu) and add the image in the brush editor texture tab.

(But, alternatively, a texture image could also be meant to get used as asset, which we can't know without more info about your purchase or download).

It depends on what you purchased / downloaded. Some providers offer sets which contain both, brushes & assets to complete each other e.g. as strokes & fills. Usually you can read in the offer before purchasing what items will be included. Brushes and Assets of cause get installed at different places within Affinity.

Now has the app stored those files in its own area so i can delete the extracted folders and their contents? or does the app pull them from that file location, which is my downloads file, and i dont want them there forever. If the later is true, and i move them will the app find them or do i have to start over, delete them from the app and add them from the new location.

Once you installed them in Affinity they are stored in your custom user app data or user library folder where also other user settings are placed. (Note, assets may get saved additionally within documents, too). That means, after installing the downloaded files aren't necessary for Affinity to work and thus you may delete them. Or, just as backup, you could store them somewhere to avoid eventually issues with internet or shop access whenever you might need the files again.

The only things that were installed were the assets, in the first file? i dont know as i said, my installation instructions are needed. Frankly, im not very enthusiastic about using this app. I have a bad taste in my mouth from my purchase. so to speak.

I dont understand the image and adding the brushes at all. Are you saying i have to create a new brush for all the brushes i added that dont show up in the list? no, that cant be id be doing it for years, lol.

If I understand from your first post, your app (Photo, Designer, Publisher) is not signing in via the MyAccount? You did try running the app as Administrator? This seems to be working for about everyone. It's a workaround until Serif gets the problem fixed. When's the last time you rebooted your system? In Windows, select Restart from the Start>Power menu. I didn't realize until recently, Restarting is the preferred method of getting a good clean bootup, not Shutting down, then starting. I guess they've made all the recently releases, where when shutdown, a lot of things stay resident in RAM, (TSR), so is not flushed at shutdown, more like the Sleep or Hibernation modes.

Once Restarted try the Run as Administrator again. IF you still can not sign into your MyAccount, I'm going to guess here, there may be an issue with your security settings for your default browser, that's not allowing the app access to the internet. That or a firewall, anti-virus setting.

If on Windows is simple, just right-click on the app's launching file, ie; photo.exe, and from the menu select Run as Administrator. The User Account Control will then prompt you asking for confirmation, press Yes. When it launches, go to the MyAccount and sign in. The sign in will launch your default browser, go Serif's sign in. The difference now is the sign in was through the internal browser provided by the apps.

Ok, so you still can't sign in via the apps. Going to the Serif website, logging into your account, at the downloads, download the files (afassets, afbrushes). Once downloaded, then launch your app (Photo for example), then open the Assets Studio (View>Studio>Assets). Click on hamburger menu, it's in the upper-right, horizontal lines. In this menu select Import Assests. Navigate on your system where you downloaded them from the web to your system. Select the afassets file. There will be a confirmation dialog, confirming success on installing. You then access them via the Assets Studio.

@ahnay: If you're installing manually, you would download the Brushes or Assets or JPGs, or all 3, or any combination. You install the Brushes (after unzipping) using the Brushes panel. You install Assets from the Assets panel. The JPGs are there in case you don't want to use the textures as Assets, but want to Place them manually using the File menu instead.
