With the School Series fast approaching, we would love to have some help at each of the three events. Many of these roles do not require experience in orienteering. All our orienteering events are organised and run by volunteers.
Here's an idea of what these jobs require:
Caravan towing - picking the club caravan up from the storage location and taking it to and from the event. Having a vehicle big enough to tow the heavy trailer and the ability to back it into a tight and awkward location is essential.
Set up - helping get the event centre, start and finish areas ready. Putting documents on the notice board, putting flags out, etc.
Starts - make sure all competitors have the right equipment, pick up the right map, read out any start instructions, and start their course with the correct spacing between competitors.
Training and Newcomers host - This does require some experience. Just taking the novice orienteer through what they can expect, the start process, and any key features about the map that they need to know.
Sportident and computer - This requires a person with our computer programme experience to set up the event, but once running it can normally be supervised by someone with basic computer literacy.
Control collection - After course closure, the controller will send you out to collect a group of controls. It helps if you have some orienteering experience. This is a great job to do if you want to get more navigation practice.
Pack up - just as indicated - pack up the event centre, start and finish areas. Tidy up the caravan, ready for being towed back to the storage area.
Our next events are:
Sunday 3 May - School Series #1 - Sprint at Tonga Park, Queens, Kings and Bathgate Park Schools
Sunday 10 May - School Series #2 - Long at Forrester Park
Sunday 7 June - School Series #3 - Sprint at Southern Cemetery/ Montecillo Sports Ground
Sunday 14 June - 1 Hour Rogaine for School Students and then the public - Waiora Scout Camp

Thank you so much for considering supporting us in this way. We can't run events without you
