Hi everyone,

You are invited to join us for a weekend of easy to moderate hiking in Taos from Friday, June 26, to Sunday, June 28. Here is the itinerary:

Friday, June 26 -

- Meet at 9am in front of the HomeGoods store in the Devargas parking lot. Drive about 1 and ½ hrs. to the West Rim Trail trailhead that starts at the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge in Taos. The trail is 3.8 miles R/T and is mostly flat with good views of the river. We can go as far as we want and then return to the cars.

- Drive to our hotel, Casa Benavides, or to any other hotel you may prefer, (20 minutes drive) to check in.

- Dinner at Stella's Restaurant, an easy walk from Casa Benavides at 112 Camino de la Placita.

Saturday, June 27 -

-Leave hotel at 9am and drive to the Williams Lake trailhead near the Bavarian Restaurant (45 minutes drive).  Beautiful trail with great views from the lake. It's 3.8 miles R/T with 1,000 ft.  elevation gain. We can imbibe at the Bavarian Restaurant after our hike. Lots of lawn chairs in front of the restaurant with great views.

-Drive back to our hotel.

-Dinner at Earth Oven (Mediterranean food) at 106 Des Georges Pl., an easy walk from Casa Benavides, or at some other restaurant such as The Love Apple.

Sunday, June 28 -

-Drive home or...

-Drive 40 minutes south on the way home to the Slide Trail trailhead in Pilar. Easy trail along side of the Rio Grande with 550 ft. gain  and 2.7 miles R/T. High likelihood of seeing big horn sheep along the opposite side of the river.

-Drive home

Any of you who wants to hike on other, perhaps harder, hikes in the Taos area while the rest of us do the easier hikes, is welcome.

Please RSVP if you are interested in joining us for this trip. Information and booking at Casa Benevides is at casabenavides.com. This charming hotel has over 30 rooms, each uniquely decorated. Their breakfast is made to order. Be sure to look at the "Casa Benavides Room Map" on their website before choosing a room.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Most of these are music events. Doesn’t leave much except June and early July. I wouldn’t mind skipping the Buena Comida on Sunday 28th, but there might be others who would choose that over hiking in Taos. Although the Buena Comida folks are mainly ex-hikers.
