Setting a custom filesystem type on mount

Hello,

Is it possible to set a custom filesystem type when mounting? Currently, using the mount option fstypename I can only set the file system type to be "<distname>_<type>", where <distname> is the name of the osxFUSE distribution and <type> is the type I choose.

I would like to be able to set a completely custom type without having the distribution name prepended to it. Is this feasible to implement?
