Hi, got a new macbook air m1 here with a Japanese keyboard. I'd like to essentially swap it with the 7 key on my number row, the end goal being to get ' to the @ key as when typing in English shift + 7 is a weird reach to make.

However I can't (arrrgh that reach! haha) find the @ key as a option to remap inside of Karabiner. Maybe I'm not looking for the right name or just flat out missing it.

I have set my keyboard properly in Karabiner under the country code and everything works as it's supposed to otherwise.

Any tips? Thanks!

Btw, I'd like to point out that this specific issue is really difficult to google for, being the @ key it brings up loads of unrelated things hahaha.

I had no idea this could be so tricky, but could you remap shift+2 to act as shift+7? I’ll keep looking for a bit but that might work.

Oh, sorry I wasn't super clear. On a Japanese keyboard the @ symbol has a dedicated key. Its to the right of the P key, oddly. Shift + 2 is the quotation mark, haha. It's a real mess and I'm used to everything but that key for the ' drives me nuts. My issue is I can't find anything in Karabiner that indicates the existence of the @ key at all.

I hope this isn’t a stupid question, but what does the event viewer show for that key?

That was a wonderful question because I had no idea the event viewer existed.

It seems to see it called the open_bracket and I have now swapped the keys! Thank you so much!
