Recently, I have received quite a few e-mails inquiring as to how many
international students the Admissions Committee will admit this
year.

Each year, the Admissions Committee anticipates receiving 300
applications from international students. The Committee typically
makes offers to between 50 and 75 of those applicants and they expect
that 20-25 of those applicants will accept the offer and enroll.

These numbers are meant to be used only as a guideline and not as a
concrete indicator of how many offers the Committee will make this
year. **The number of offers to either international or domestic
students is not pre-determined.** Decisions are made ONLY after a
thorough review of an applicant's completed application file. No
international student applications will be reviewed before the
December 15th deadline.

Also, please be aware that Department of Chemistry faculty do not
admit students directly into their respective research groups. Before
joining a research group, a student must:

1) apply
2) be offered admission
3) accept the offer
4) enroll in Autumn Quarter
5) complete the preceptor selection process during Autumn Quarter

It is not necessary to contact faculty members regarding admission
into their groups.

Lastly, applicants are kindly asked to not e-mail to inquire as to
their individual prospects for gaining admission (i.e., asking "Am I
competitive"). Please refer to the information on this web page
https://web.chemistry.ohio-state.edu/v.5.5/graduate/faqs to gauge your
own level of competitiveness as compared to the requirements and
standards set forth by both the University and the Chemistry
Admissions Committee.
