Um, why are you using the ancient RH4.2? Among other problems, the
Linux 2.0 kernel has major performance problems on sun4c machines
(which include the IPC).

Run the latest version. Believe it or not, sometimes programs
actually get more efficient in later versions. This isn't Windows
we're talking about here.
