Volunteer Opportunities

Compost Education at Arnold Dining Re-Opening - May 11

• Wednesday, May 11, 1-hr shifts between 11 am and 3 pm
• Arnold Dining Center, 681 SW 26th St
• We are trying a pilot project in Arnold Dining Center to sort out compostable serving ware and food scraps. This started with the posting of new signs, and now we need your help stepping it up by staffing the waste area during Arnold's Grand Re-Opening event! You will be working with a Campus Recycling staff member, greeting diners and helping them sort their material into the correct bins after they eat.

We want your ideas for Res Hall Move-Out! – June 6-10

• Res Hall Move-Out Week (June 6-10 this year) is the period of time in which students in the residence halls begin packing up their things to take off for the summer, and it’s also the time of year when we send the most material to the landfill! Each year Campus Recycling builds up a volunteer base to help students sort their material for recycling and donating – last year we donated nearly 12,000 lbs of material to nonprofits!

OSU Commencement Recycling - June 11

• Saturday, June 11, two shifts: 8:30-11:30 am and 1:45-3:45 pm
• Reser Stadium (meet at the loading dock on 26th St, across from LaSells and behind the row of hedges)
• In the morning, 8:30-11:30 am, we will staff the stadium gates to help Commencement attendees sort their waste into recycling and trash. In the afternoon, 1:45-3:45 pm, we will collect recycling from the stadium stands and grounds before the cleaning crew cleans.

Event Recycling at da Vinci Days Festival 2011 - July 15-17

• Friday-Sunday, July 15-17, please see the signup form for shift times
• Lower campus lawn, near Jefferson and 11th
• We are continuing our work started in 2010 to move da Vinci Days toward becoming a zero waste festival, and we need your help! Sign up for 4 hours or more of volunteering at our festival waste stations and receive FREE ADMISSION for the whole weekend!
