Hi,

My group and I would like to use Ostrich to calibrate a few parameters in the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model, run in Single Column Mode (SCM). WRF SCM uses a combination of text and NetCDF input. The output is in NetCDF.

The Demos provided in the Ostrich software package and the Manual have been really helpful, but the Demos are all text-based input/output examples. I am struggling with how to set up the template file for a case with netcdf input/output. I am also not confident in the way I am specifying the FileTypeConversion in ostIn.txt.

When I try to run Ostrich, it returns a segmentation fault, which isn’t particularly useful for debugging. I have successfully run the Ostrich Demos though (and WRF SCM alone), so I know that the issue is related to some aspect of my setup of Ostrich operating on the WRF SCM, specifically.

I was wondering if any other users might have, and be willing to share, an ostIn.txt file and a set of FilePairs for a NetCDF input/output model? It would be very useful to have a NetCDF example from which I can learn.

Thanks in advance,

Tricia

Hi Tricia,

You might talk with Dr. Jeff Wong, University of Saskatchewan, Canada

I know he has done some calibrations with OSTRICH with VIC model. He might help you.

Hi Shawn, Kangsheng and all,

Thanks for all your suggestions and help. I was able to get OSTRICH to work with my model by creating a work around. I wrote a script that runs after the model simulation is complete. It reads the simulated observations from the netcdf model output files and writes them to a text file that OSTRICH reads.

Thanks!
Tricia
