Dear Fellow Ostomates:
Doctors treat the disease. But, what helps you to get your life back--and to even THRIVE with an ostomy?
The Livestrong Foundation has provided special funding for those who have been diagnosed with cancer to access Pillars4Life, an on-line educational skills training program. The Basic Training course of 9 sessions will teach you a powerful combination of solution-focused and mind-body skills to handle your stresses and to make better decisions. Although this course is available to ALL people who would like to increase their resiliency skills in the midst of adversity, the last series sponsored through the Livestrong Grant is ending soon. Please consider registering for the September series of classes (valued at $399.00) by August 26. OFFERED AT NO COST TO YOU THANKS TO THE GENEROSITY OF
THE LIVESTRONG FOUNDATION. See the attached flier for more details. Develop Mind and Body Skills Flyer
One of our Ostomy Group Facilitators in Spokane, WA, Susie Leonard Weller, M.A., wrote this about her experience in attending the Pillars4Life on-line classes:
"Although I'd been teaching 'Life Skills for Success' classes through the Community Colleges of Spokane, WA for 14 years, when I was diagnosed with Stage III Colorectal Cancer that required a permanent ostomy, I needed to increase my own resiliency skills! I'm so thankful funding from the Livestrong Foundation encouraged me to participate in this life-changing on-line (and telephone) training program. The evidence-based classes equipped me to better respond to my stresses. I appreciated learning simple, yet effective, tools to cope--even if my circumstances didn't change. I've learned to identify the thoughts behind my emotions and to explore what I need to feel better. Their holistic approach integrates scientific research, while also encouraging me to listen to my inner wisdom to live more fully--no matter what."
Please share with members of your ASG today because the last days to register for the September classes are August 26-28, 2014.
Sincerely,
Ival Secrest
