Hi,

I have been using Ostinato in the 9x VMs created on a Dell T630 Server running VMware vSphere ESXi and Centos. I observed  there are some packet receive errors in the ESXi Network Performance but nothing indicated in the Ostinato sessions. Are these Packet drop, packet error accumulated during the test sessions. Are they correlated to the counts in /proc/net/dev of Centos OS?

Thanks,

Chenkuo

Yes, those error counters are accumulated on Linux - we use the
netlink IFLA_STATS for the same - the source of those stats should be
same as what you see in /proc/net/dev. Are you seeing error counter
increment on /proc/net/dev ?

Srivats,

Thanks for your reply. I don't see any error count in the /proc/net/dev either. But the VMware ESXi claimed there are packet errors . I also run VeemOne free version, it said the same thing, there is packet error. I am not sure whether these error are related to Ostinato generated traffic or not. I think most if not all, of the traffic are from/to Ostinato sessions.

I am also looking into the Ixia IxVM and IxNetwork, have you had Ostinato interfaced to those software tools or use them before?

Thanks,

Chenkuo

I'm not familiar with ESXi, so I'm not sure from where it is reporting
the errors.

ixVM/ixNetwork are alternatives to Ostinato, so not sure what you mean
by interfacing them with Ostinato.
