Hi,

I purchased Ostinato for Eve-ng

Downloaded it and installed it on my EVE-PRO

root@eve-ng:/tmp# tar zxvf oxLjvNHqQkm2pWVrL0r8_ostinatostd-eveng-1.3.0-1.tgz
ostinatostd-eveng-1.3.0-1/
ostinatostd-eveng-1.3.0-1/hda.qcow2
ostinatostd-eveng-1.3.0-1/install.sh
ostinatostd-eveng-1.3.0-1/OstinatoStd.png
ostinatostd-eveng-1.3.0-1/ostinatostd.yml
ostinatostd-eveng-1.3.0-1/VERSION
root@eve-ng:/tmp# cd ostinatostd-eveng-1.3.0-1/
root@eve-ng:/tmp/ostinatostd-eveng-1.3.0-1# ./install.sh
Ostinato (standard) version 1.3.0-1 for EVE-NG:

Installing template...
  /opt/unetlab/html/templates/intel/ostinatostd.yml
  /opt/unetlab/html/templates/amd/ostinatostd.yml
  /opt/unetlab/html/templates_legacy/ostinatostd.yml
...done
This version of EVE-NG does not auto-detect custom templates
/opt/unetlab/html/includes/custom_templates.yml already exists
Adding Ostinato (standard) to custom templates...done
Installing icon...done
Successfully installed Ostinato (standard) 1.3.0-1

I can see it on my eve-ng as you can see in the attachment (Ostinato_Adding node.png)

But when i try to connect via RDP or VNC to the GUI it shows an error.
(Unable to connect ostinato console via VNC.png)

When i do connect via telnet i can access it.

Any help on getting the GUI to work on eve ng? I have the docker version that comes with eve pro, and that one works fine with it.

Thanks

Hi Gabriel,

I'm sorry you are running into an issue with Ostinato for EVE-NG.

VNC/RDP access is provided by the EVE-NG infra itself and the Ostinato node itself doesn't have anything to do with it.

Are you able to use VNC or RDP with any other node in the lab? Can you try this with some other nodes?

What version of EVE-NG are you using?

Hi Srivats

Thanks for  getting back to me so quickly!

I found a workaround. If I use the html mode on eve ng i can see the gui.

My problem now has to do with the amount of streams i can do.

Is there a limit of streams?

I am replicating a pcap that has 12000 packets using intelligent mode. When it creates the streams and i apply the portgroup disconnects and i cannot recover it.

Is there a limit on the number of streams i can generate?

Thanks for your help

Glad you found a workaround and unblocked yourself!

Number of streams is only limited by the RAM available

Sounds like the drone agent is crashing - when this happens, open a terminal and check "ps ax | grep drone" to see if it is still running or not. You can start it manually post crash to avoid restarting the whole node.

As to the reason for the crash, in case of PCAP v1.3.0 has a bug for the PCAP import case. Each PCAP packet is imported as a stream with 1 packet (unlike streams created from scratch which typically have more no of packets). The packet buffer memory allocated to each stream is overkill for the PCAP import case (1 pkt/stream) and this may lead to out of memory on the system. However, this out of memory should happen only on Windows and not on Linux (which is what the VM is based on) due to the way Linux handles memory allocations.

Can you increase the RAM allocated to the node and try again?

If you still see the problem even after that, please share your PCAP file and I'll take a look.

I will do that! Thank you!

I will share feedback of my findings!
