Hello there,
is it possible to set a loop (a test in the ostinato) thru the phisical port (from Rx to Tx) in order to perform a test from the outside ?
In other words, something that act like a RJ45 looped plug performed by software with a PC/Laptop ?
Thanks
Marco

Not from within Ostinato/Drone - however check for other utilities for
your platform that can put the ethernet adaptor in phy/mac loopback
mode (ethtool maybe?)

What is your use case?

Hello,
no unfortunately with ethtool you can't !
Tipically, I need to perform a loopback test on an electric Gigabit Ethernet port that with a normal RJ45 loop plug you can't perform due to the "echo cancellation" feature ....
So basically I need a system to perform a loop as described without using a "traditonal" LAN tester instrument...

Is it a feature that *could* be implemented in that extraordinary and fantastic tool .... isn't it ??
Cheers

Marco,

Sorry - I missed your reply.

Yes it "could" be implemented within Ostinato - but not natively but
rather via another external application that provides this
functionality (similar to how bindconfig provides 'exclusive control'
support for windows). If you find such an application (I thought
ethtool does, but as per your answer it doesn't) let me know and I'll
consider enabling/disabling the phy/mac loopback via Ostinato.
