Hello there!

I was wondering if there is any formula or method of calculating how much CPU/RAM is needed to generate traffic at 40 Gbps? I have a 40G NIC that is PCI-E v3.0 compatible, so I believe the bus throughput is sufficient, I just wanted to know what sort of processor/motherboard/RAM I should look at before I build a machine that will generate 40G traffic... Or if this is even possible.

Thank you very much!

Regards,
El-ad

I doubt there is a direct formula or method to do that. It is more
typical that the 10/40G NIC manufacturer includes some "intelligence"
on-board the NIC to facilitate these high speeds without the CPU's
involvement - I would suggest you research those options for your
particular NIC.

Hi El,

How much traffic you were able to send/receive from the NIC ? I have
two similar NICs in two Gen3 supported servers and the maximum I could
get is about 37.5Gbps

Thanks
