Hi,

I'm new to Ostinato.

Is there an option to run traffic from a pcap file via script or api ?

If there is could you direct me to an example ?

If not , is this option in the roadmap and if so when ?

Why do you want to use Ostinato instead of tcpreplay for this usecase?

Srivats Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply.

My use case is : I'm building an automation system for a virtual environment (openstack) and need a traffic generator in my automation environment.

Most of the time the TG will transmit a certain flow of traffic (several protocols ,several IPs /MACs …).

I thought that the best way to do so is to feed the TG with a pcap and create from this pcap a stream and then manipulate the stream (As done in IXIA for example).

I think that Ostinato is the tool that I need for this task, isn't it? , is tcp replay better suits the system requirement?

Hi Srivats,
I'm also a new to Ostinato, and my requirement is similar with Asaf.
I want to build an virtual environment  to test firewall. And I try to use tcpreplay, because the interface in my DUT is configured different vlan, but tcpreplay just can add vlan or delete vlan, it cannot set different vlan in different direction package in tcprewrite.  I want to is it Ostinato can meet this requirement?

And my concern is Obstinate automation, could you help to provide some detail guideline of it's automation. And I 'm confused what's the Drone?

Asaf,

I'm not fully familiar with the tcpreplay/tcprewrite feature set, so I'll refrain from commenting on that.

As regards Ostinato, it is possible to do what you want (search the mailing list archives). Instead of importing PCAP streams and manipulating them, why don't you create streams from scratch using Ostinato itself?

Ella,

Although I'm not intimately familiar with tcprewrite capabilities, but based on what you say, can't you use vlan delete + vlan add to do a vlan tag rewrite?

Coming to Ostinato, yes it is possible to do this. But why do you want to import PCAP streams instead of creating new ones natively in Ostinato - it is much easier to do that.

Please read the User Guide and Python Scripting Guides.

Hi Srivats,
The tcprewirte cannot do vlan add/delete for each client or server.  e.g. the stream from A to B using vlan tag 111, from B to A using vlan tag 222.
I want to know is Ostinato ’s CLI can do this?
And could you show me a demo of using ostinato cli automation?  I’m new to ostinato, It will help me know well ostinato automation.
Thanks!

Ella,

Please read the documents I pointed to you in my previous mail regarding the Ostinato architecture and Python Automation.
