Hello,

I am a new user to Ostinato on my mac. I followed the instructions on the youtube tutorial to the tee, but the statistics tab on the port I'm using consistently shows packets sent as 0 on every port I try my stream. I am struggling to understand what I am doing wrong, I am starting up drone through sudo in my terminal. I have tried several times and installed the software on different machines. Is there any advice for this or solution to my problem.

What youtube instructions ? You don't expect someone to try to help you
going aftter your steps on such short description, do you ?

Well, I guess you are...

If you want someone to help, may be doing something else as describing
what are you trying to do, reading previous posts on the list, using
google, etc, would increase your chances to have someone pay attention
to your problem.

I miss the times of netiquette :)

I was not aware of a youtube video, I have used ostinato in the past and
it worked for me right away.
I can say that it seems to work for many, so it might help to say those
things that you take for given.

Like:
-what OS are you using ? (I can presume it's a unix derivative)
-Now you say you are using python, but it's not clear what for or how.
-What is your topology, nics, networks, etc.

I'm not irritated, but I must confess, I jump to conclusions quite fast.
Believe it or not, I'm trying to help. The alternative for me is staying
silent...

I do use windows as a frontend, so I don't have much experience on using
ostinato (the front end) on linux. But I have used dron on linx for
quite some time w/o much problem.

Before jumping to it does not work (i.e. send packets), does the port
group show up and your nic shows green in it ?

BTW, Carlos, nice to meet you :)

Ah, ok.
Then your problem sounds like a monitoring one.
If wireshark sees the packets, then the packets are there.
You may want to run wireshark on the other side of the cable, so to say.
It may be that the winpcap interface is not able or willing to give copy
of the packets to more than one client at a time ? (wireshark and drone,
that would be).

I'll let others to chime in...

http://ostinato.org on the home page there is very clearly an instructional video on how to get started: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=On64lQYEFlY

I am at an impasse as I have googled, searched this group, and played with all the settings for streams with no success resulting in me posting this question. Here is every step I did: I installed the software, ran it using sudo in terminal, created a new stream in port one, ethernet II, used ipv4 and tcp. In stream control under source and destination ports I used 1.1.1.1 and 2.2.2.2 respectively. I sent 10 packets per second. I thought it wouldn't be necessary to post all of this as the video is on the homepage and I guess that implied most people who were using the software had gone through that to figure out how to start when they first began. Frankly I have been messing with this software via python and the guy for close to a week on multiple machines. Every time I run it my terminal gives me a Txc of 0 after I run it. I have also installed and uninstalled the software if it was some set up issue.

I am currently on a mac OS X, so I am using Linux. I found the way to set up a stream via a python program https://github.com/pstavirs/ostinato/wiki/PythonScripting and I am using the example with local host and using the same port (port 1) for transmit and receive. And yes, my port group is definitely showing up and they are all green. Some other information is when I run wireshark it does show that packets are being retransmitted, the same stats from wire shark show up in my terminal (stats are being retransmitted) however the tx_pkts=0, rx_pkts=0 still shows at the end of the transmission which I am assuming means no packets are being transmitted or received.

Thank you so much by the way!

Aparnan,

Sounds like packets are being sent out, just that Stats are not
getting updated. Btw you said Wireshark is showing "retransmitted", I
assume you mean "transmitted". Can you please confirm? If you see
packets corresponding to your stream on Wireshark that means packets
are being sent out.

Can you provide me the full output log of drone (from starting till
you hit startTx and stopTx)?
