Ok...so there are several choices.

Which kind of wiki,
where to host/how.

Which domain name to use and should it be subdomained...

We could use:

wiki.openspacetechnology.org
or just make one of the two domains I have a wiki outright.

We could get media wiki or mindtouch wiki and buy hosting installing it ourselves.

We could use hosting services from mindtouch (why is this ok...cause it is open source so if we wanna leave...we can download software ourselves and install it somewhere else - we can also if we use the domain name we have can make everything a seamless move).

MindTouch has wysiwig editing - (what you see is what you get) less nerdy then the syntax you have for media wiki.

People might be familiar with MediaWiki - but the less learning curve for the new people - the less training we have to do at actual events. It's not the most fun teaching people the MeatballWiki or MediaWiki syntax while great conversations are happening away from the press area. The commiseration can be satisfying at times, especially around the MeatballWiki, but I'm sure there are a lot more valuable things to be commiserating about than a poor user experience with adding stuff to a wiki.

How about you and anyone else around here poke around on Mind touch wiki's and see what you think.

Another option could also be Wagn.
This gives a lot of flexibility - with having more then one thing appear more then one places with the concept of cards.

We could have people profiles and different community / area groups and interest areas...

in a way more "open space like"

I enjoyed the Mind Touch experience apart from a few points.

A new article seems to have some confusing junk in it. I think it generates the introductory message, but it was disconcerting to see it in a supposedly wysiwig editor. It was {{System blah blah}}. A minor disappointment was that it did not integrate image uploads in the image adding gui. Other than that, it was quite intuitive.

I've signed up for the grouppatternlanguage.org site, but have not been accepted yet and it's been over 24 hours... I may not have put enough in my initial profile for them to see me as a real person - but the www.wagn.org has a sandbox. It's much less intuitive - at least at first glance. It does require figuring out some syntax. And it's not intuitive what happens once you've created a card. Maybe I'm lazy, but I'd rather not spend a lot of time reading docs to figure out things. I think I prefer MindTouch.
