Request for document to get started on OSSEC development

Hello OSSEC Team;

Am a postgraduate student with burning desire to develop and extend some of the functionalities of OSSEC, please, how can i get started and what language can i use for the development.

The vast majority of the code base is C.

You mention extending OSSEC: it's up to you whether you choose to fork the project to extend it for your own purposes or if you intend to propose changes to the project. If you intend to contribute to the project, you should familiarize yourself with open source etiquette and the contract documented here. Namely, be mindful of "To initiate changes, a user SHOULD log an issue on the project Platform issue tracker." I recommend communicating with the project maintainers before you invest time developing new feature or major changes, as there's no guarantee a pull request will be accepted if the change isn't consistent with the maintainers' vision for the project.

You can also reach us on irc in #ossec on irc.freenode.net. I or some
of the other folks there would be happy to talk to you about the
project there or via the list here.

As Nathan mentioned, the project is primarily in C, with some other
components linked in (Lua, Sqlite, etc).
