Just wanted to be the first to announce the news.

I'm sure Ross will follow up with an actual figure.

This is without the recent User Interface changes, so really is something to be proud off.

Well done team. I'm enjoying this ride and can't wait to see what happens next, after we introduce multiple sources.

We're actually up to 5,525 total user installs now.  Which is nice.  I'm hopefully going to finish an update of the scrapers for NICE this morning so I can provide VJ and Neil a categorised dataset so they can provide more useful UI and update handling.

Unfortunately the iPhone version got rejected for being too simplistic as Apple didn't believe it added any value, although it was suggested that if we add printing support to the PDF view then it might get through next time. They also suggested a web app but when I explained about their technical restrictions that would mean offline storage would be difficult it seemed that they thought it should be doctors that should have to put up with the download time on each access. Apparently Apple are all about the users, in reality they seem to be all about the appearance.  It's their playground so I guess they get to choose, even if we've paid to get in - it wasn't a fun Christmas week.  I'm working on updating a client to use a friend's framework and the new NICE feed to try and convince Apple to take an updated version, but it is slow going with my time being the main bottleneck - the joys of working without budget :(

Contrast with the 15 minutes and $25 it cost to sign up and get the app on the Android appstore - but I guess that is a rant for another time.

Ross.

All puns intended, hey Ross?

Since we’re now moving beyond just NICE, can I motion that we rename our app:

Nice guidelines, as opposed to NICE guidelines?

Speak now or hold your peace J

Although I don’t have an iPhone, I’m happy to install the SDK & develop on an emulator; assuming the SDK is free & our iPhone ‘port’ is also open source.

About this NICE feed... I appreciate the need to placate Apple to get out of this non-starter situation but am concerned that the platforms will diverge & would prefer a common code base.

Puns? Who me?

The problem with a common code base is that the whilst Android uses Java the iPhone  instead uses Objective-C.  There are tools that can be used to cross-compile but that would involve a complete re-write.    I thought seeing as I am doing a categorised feed for the Android app we could use it for the iPhone as well.

I'm nearly there with the feed.

Ross.

Would Sencha Touch be of any help? It produces apps that run on iPhone Android Crackberry and HTML5 browsers like Chrome and Safari.

I'd already found titanium appcelerator which does the same thing I believe, generates the appropriate code for whichever platform, and was using that for the iPhone app - my Javascript is much better than my Objective-C at least in terms of speed of development.

I'd happily go for an offline web application but the problem is the amount of available storage for offline applications, it would mean storing only about 3 of the guidelines actually on the device :(
