My preferences for healthcare IT, in order:
1) open source - so that the NHS can build and enhance its capability and capacity in infomatics
2) open standards - without royalties or membership fees so that new entrants can buildin compliance in code released as opensource
3) open APIs - so where 1 & 2 have not happened, we can still create 1 and 2 using interfaces to systems that will become 'legacy' through the adoption of 1 & 2 displacing hermetically sealed systems.
