This has gone on for 3-4 days and I was beginning to think that my computer is defective and was preparing to go into an Apple Store. Then when I did some googling I came across an article mentioning if you have McAfee Total Protection it can cause issues and that is isn't totally compatible yet with Ventura. That article was written in late Oct of 2022 though.

At its core, McAfee Total Protection provides our award-winning antivirus to defend against viruses, online threats and ransomware with both cloud-based online and offline protection. Beyond your Windows PCs, McAfee Total Protection provides cross-device protection that extends your peace of mind to your Macs and iOS/Android mobile devices, so you can enjoy security at home and on-the-go across all your compatible devices.

Most antivirus software programs download updates automatically when you are online. This helps ensure that your protection is always up to date. We recommend that you enable real-time scanning to make sure that there are no lapses in your protection. In addition, you can schedule system scans in advance for times that work best for you.

On the other hand, paid antivirus subscriptions give you up-to-date, advanced security protection against a wide variety of malware and digital threats. Paid solutions also tend to come with richer features and services. For example, McAfee Total Protection includes identity protection and a VPN to protect your personal info.

I recently uninstalled the program to try and do a reinstall. I downloaded the appropriate file from the 'My account' dashboard (mcafee-macinstaller-3.3) and opened the file. The McAfeeInstaller.app window presents itself and I click on this and provide the permission to make changes.

HI, other disappointed user here : if you can open the VPN / Firewall window and see the active/ deactivate toggle but nothing happens when you click on it / or it crashes then you are on a known issue that total Protection has with MAC. It is just super badly done and apparently once their tech team fixes it it happens again as soon as you upgrade your Mac. a never ending story. I would advise anyone who is tempted not to buy this product as it looks like the issue is going one for at least 2 years.

Today, McAfee offers one of the most comprehensive digital and personal data protection packages in McAfee+ (McAfee Plus, formerly Total Protection). In addition to malware protection, McAfee offers identity theft protection, a VPN, and a bunch of other useful tools for protecting your devices and digital information.

Digital protection is no longer just about keeping our devices safe from malware and viruses. The internet plays a huge part in this shift. As we connect our devices to the internet and use online services like social media platforms, our digital life has become intertwined with other aspects of our lives.

For 2022, Total Protection has again adopted a new app design on Windows that builds on what we saw previously. The company has also launched some new features including an Identity Protection Service that assesses how safe you are online, protecting against weak spots, and making it easy to improve protection.

For AV-Comparatives, McAfee earned 99.8 percent in the real-world protection test between July and October 2021, with no false positives from 743 samples. For the malware-protection test in September 2021, McAfee earned 100 percent again, with four false positives.

McAfee is an excellent security suite. It offers high-quality protection, the price is right, performance is good, and there are a few nice extra features such as a VPN, file shredder, app update checker, and a home network scanner. I have a few quibbles, such as with the VPN bandwidth limit and the design of the app, but overall McAfee is still an excellent choice.

Hello! Thank you for your help in advance. I own a MacBook Air with the new M2 chip running Ventura OS. For some reason when attempting download the updated 2023 Mcafee Total protection the installation starts and then vanishes almost immediately. I spoke with Mcafee customer service and they suggested it was a potential settings issue with my firewall. Any idea how to fix this?

For years, the name McAfee has been synonymous with antiviral and security software. Its Total Protection suite for the macOS continues to be steadily updated (currently version 4.19.0.0) and offers a good suite of anti-viral, anti-malware, identity protection, VPN, and scheduling tools.

Unfortunately, I think it must be McAfee itself doing some sort of protection on my system because believe or not, I could not copy notepad.exe and run it! I even tried Wordpad. They would only run under their real names. Must be something to do with Windows apps because I tried it with another an text editor and it was not a problem; however, I didn't see the McAfee context menus there, either.

During May and June 2023 we continuously evaluated 16 home user security products using their default settings. We always used the most current publicly-available version of all products for the testing. They were allowed to update themselves at any time and query their in-the-cloud services. We focused on realistic test scenarios and challenged the products against real-world threats. Products had to demonstrate their capabilities using all components and protection layers.

\r\nFeatures and support
\r\nMcAfee provides a solid list of standard security features, from antivirus and anti-malware protection, a two-way firewall, and antispam measures to real-time safeguards, parental controls, and search result rankings.\r\n

\r\nAs befits a high-end suite, Total Protection 2012 also comes with some helpful extras, such as a secure file shredder, encrypted local storage, online backup, some basic Wi-Fi protection on home-based wireless networks, and tools for tweaking system performance.\r\n

\r\nThe parental control package has been updated, too. Parents get protection against blacklisted Web traffic in programs other than the browser, such as instant-messaging applications; browsing logs; and the ability to monitor changes to the clock to prevent clever kids from circumventing the suite's program timer.\r\n

\r\nHow good is the protection it offers? Surveying the results from several independent testing agencies, the answer is probably going to cause much gnashing of teeth among McAfee fans. AV-Test marked consistently low scores for McAfee Total Protection 2011 during the first two quarters of 2011. On a Windows 7 computer, McAfee scored 3 out of 6 on Protection, 2 out of 6 on Repair, and 3.5 out of 6 on Usability, for an overall score of 8.5 out of 18 and failing the minimum of 11 for an AV-Test certificate.\r\n

\r\nIn the second quarter, on a Windows XP computer, McAfee Total Protection 2011 and 2012 did marginally better. The suite hit 3 out of 6 on both Protection and Repair, and 3.5 out of 6 on Usability, for a total of 9.5 out of 18, still not high enough to be certified.\r\n

\r\nThe most recent AV-Comparatives.org Whole Product test, which looks at on-demand scanning, retroactive tests, and \"real-world\" guards including cloud-based protections, showed generally dark trends for McAfee 2011 with a sliver of light at the end of the tunnel. From January 2011 through August 2011, McAfee was the third-worst suite tested overall, ahead of only K7 and PC Tools with a 93.6 percent blocked-threat rate. The September 2011 test got a much better score, having blocked 98.7 percent of attacks and threats thrown at it. That's fourth-best for the month, an impressive turnaround that bodes well for McAfee 2012, but it's not enough to correct for prior failures.\r\n

\r\nA third testing lab, Dennis Technology Labs, had the worst news of the lot for McAfee. From its January 2011 test, in its Overall Protection test of high-end suites, Dennis Labs placed McAfee dead last out of 11, with an overall protection score of 54 percent. Dennis placed McAfee last in its Accuracy test, too.\r\n
