Hi,

 The algorithms used for test generation are mainly based on various forms of random selection from the set of enabled states in the model at different times. You can guide these with weights, scenarios, etc.

 Some algorithms also take a bit different approach in optimizing for coverage, etc. I can post a link on a paper about those when it is available next week.
