Just installed my bluetooth bike speed and cadence sensor. Would be nice to be able to show these values in OsmAnd while cycling and navigating.
Other applications exists which using (online) google maps.
I would like to show (of course configurable ;-) ) the current speed (in km/h; miles/h; wheel rpm), cadence (rpm), and hartbeat, whether they are above or below average, and their averages. And to easily reset their averages.

And maybe to add these values to the gpx recording to be able to process them offline. Though I must admit I just use my gpx files to display my route, so this is just a thought.

Any supporters for this idea?

Greetings,
Juno.

Android is flexible. There can be a second app that shows information over any other app. I'd think something like that should exist already.

If there exists a widget that shows the information you need, you can show it on top of Osmand with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.applay.overlay .

Much more flexible, I think, and this way the Osmand developers can concentrate on the core of the package...

Another way is to write a plugin for Osmand which would allow to record
such data within GPX track and show them the same way as all other data.

Standalone plugin should not distract Osmand developers with additional
work and it should not introduce new bugs for users without such device,
since they will not install the plugin.

The remaining question is, how well is Osmand plugin API documented :)

I think the plugins are at the moment not downloadable plugins, but feature sets that can be disabled.

In any case, a separate data logger can easily record the information needed (the GPS is on anyway) and Android even has a way to display it on top of Osmand.

And that data logger, being a light piece of software, can be optimally adjusted to its job, and get features like "automatically start logging when I lose my wifi network" - features which will have no place in Osmand.

Hi Juno,

I am also pondering a similar project. Having offline osm maps while cycling with other stats would be great.

Did you get anywhere with your ideas?

Cheers
