Hi,

To be able to use vector maps offline, do I need to download them, or
are they generated from the already downloaded osm data (poi files)?

Thanks,
bye

You can do any of this:
- download the offline maps - you can use the application: settings->offline data->download (filter your data and download)
- download the offline maps in computer from osmand.googlecode.com and copy them to your sd-card
- download osm files and use the OsmAndMapCreator to create obf file sutable for OsmAnd to display and copy it to sd-card

And of course, you should select the verctor map layer than in map view.

Look in how-tos.

Hi,

thanks for your program, Its very nice you have a MapViewer on the PC
(Java) wich can view maps from an OSM/OBF or PBF File with own
renderstyle to test own maps before downloading to SDcart. Tile
download of the OSM Servers are more problematic because of the mass
downloads. Would be to create a nice Fetures OSM-Like Tile-Structure
on a local hard disk from a OBF file... ..

Is anything planned in that direction?

Best Regards

Unfortunately we are too busy with mobile application and have no time to improve PC version. They completely different technologies and what I can suggest is kind of using PC android emulator (for example Android x86) http://www.android-x86.org/
