Recently I discovered the activity of geocaching. Very nice. I have
installed the great app C:Geo which can cooperate with Osmand.

Today I read about the offline wiki info and on my quest to get that
to work I found "Geocache" in the POI option list. If I press this
option I do not get any results. No surprise because I have not put
any geocache info into Osmand. So my question is: how do I get this
option to work? Do i have to put geocache info in .gpx of .loc files
into a folder? Is there an option to get is directly from groundspeak
(www.geocaching.com) into Osmand (like in C:Geo).

Hi!

   http://code.google.com/p/osmand/issues/detail?id=402
   http://code.google.com/p/osmand/issues/detail?id=265

However, even if geocaching is not part of OSM community,
if there is some another android developer that likes geocaching,
a simple app could be created that can download/convert geocaches
from the geocaching main site to OsmAnd. It would be much nicer,
if the OsmAnd is accessible as library, but I can imagine such app
can be created. Other applications go also this way, to support
various things in various 'friend' applications.

Best regards,
Pavol

Thanks Pavol for the info.

C:Geo is a brilliant geocaching app that allows you to download caches
from geocaching.com. It will also allow you to navigate via Osmand so
that is OK too. I just wondered what the "geocache" option was under
the POI list. I do not think there is a need for Osmand to focus on
geocaching. As far as am concerned "Offline routing service for
cycling" has a higher priority than geocaching ;-)

I think what we sooner or later will need to do consistently to avoid
new iser's confusion in Osmand is to clearly mark (in the menus and
preferences)
- which functionality is available offline (after previous download of
the respective data files)
- which functionality is available online only (requires live internet
connectivity)
- which functionality is a plugin-type (which we may develop in the
future).

New wikipedia is almost borderline here, as it requires previous
download, but the really changes app functionality in certain points
and menus.

I have a long time ago tried to mark most stuff that works offline
with the expression "offline" (as in OFFLINE vector maps, OFFLINE data
manager,. Osnamd routing (OFFLINE) etc.)

But it may still not be clear to (particularly new) users which
functionality on the other hand requires ONLINE (live Internet
connection).

Hi,

Where do you find the option in C:GEO to choose for navigation using OSMAND?

Best regards,
Gert
