I have some contacts on my phone with their addresses; clicking on the
address and Google Maps opens to display the location.
Isn't it possible to somehow have an option to use osmand on this?

I just sent a mail about this as well. Check for "Osmand-ContactAddressPlugin and OsmAndUW?" (Google has not indexed it yet, so I can't give you a link).

Try osmabd contact plugin .. I developed it some time ago when I was actively using osm and with same intentions ...its open source and link to source can be found in this forums past posts...

I am not sure if its still compatible with latest version. ..feel free to update/upgrade it to work for u. Just keep it open source

I already tried it but it mentions upon install that it's the parking plugin. I found that strange but in OsmAnd but I still installed it.
I can't find it back as plugin and I don't know how to use it.
That's on Alcatel 993D, Android 4.0.4 with OsmAnd+ 1.4.1 beta.

If it is still compatible: Does it show up as a plugin sinside OsmAnd, or how do I use it?

Hi all,

This does work. You don't need to download the osmandcontactplugin. I assume one of the devs already implemented the contactsplugin directly in OsmAnd.

You need to go into your contacts and select one of your contacts.
Above the contacts you will see the phone, whatsapp, mail and "google maps" icon if the contact contains address information.
Simply click the google maps icon and contacts will ask you with which program to continue: choose OsmAnd and the location is determined (be it that the exact address house number can only be found if it's in the obf).

I tried this with addresses in the US, and is does not seem to work. Which address format was this written for?

Thanks,

Arnout

You really dig up an old thread.

It does not work as it used to work

I had it in Dutch format:
streetname + housenumber
zipcode
city

It now finds the zipcode, but not the street and housenumber.
All of them are in the map.
A group of volunteers (I'm one of them) is importing all building and address information in the Netherlands map. And I tested it with valid already imported data.

As a side note: I assume you tried it with data available in the map?

This was the first thread I found mentioning this functionality is working

The US format is:

house number + streetname [+ apartment number]
city, state abbreviation + zip code

I can find back the address in the address lookup inside osmand. Could the different format be the reason it does not work in the US?

I really don't know.

This is what I said one year ago. That was on OsmAnd 1.6 or so on Android 4.1
Now I'm on Android 4.2.2 and the even the Contacts look differently. There are no icons above the data in the contacts. I really have to "click" the address section to get the choice for the application.
It can also that OsmAnd changed since 1.6, or that OsmAnd didn't change but Android contacts did going from 4.1 to 4.2.2
No idea.

I guess you're right we're talking about both a new version of android and osmand. I'll try to look into existing bug reports, and create a new one if I cannot find anything.

Well, it's been a while now but I just stumbled upon the very same problem. Has anyone found a proper format for contact entries yet? I'm german and I use
Streetname Housenumber
Zipcode Cityname
And if I press the address entry in a contact OsmAnd opens, loads a while, and then simply tells me that the address couldn't be found. Nothing of it. And yes, the address actually exists including house number and everything within my local maps, I checked it ^^

It would be very conventient if one of the developers could write an address formating styleguide in the OsmAnd FAQs or just do some parsing magic that the formatting doesn't matter anymore, but I'm not shure if one reads this :/

I was not aware that any plug-in had been written for address lookup and display and was considering writing one myself. So thank you for bringing up an old thread.

I'd like to make this work for US addresses and having existing code that deals with Dutch and apparently German addresses could be useful as a point to start from. But looking at https://github.com/osmandapp I don't see any plug-in code. Can someone point me to where the existing code is located?

Thanks!

Hi !

I have the same problem : apparently, OsmAnd can only find properly if it's input in the US format (= "address, ZIP code, city, state, country" or something like this).

As a workaround, I use OwnCloud (from owndrive.com) to sync my contacts, and the OwnCloud web interface allows to precisely edit the contacts' addresses. It's tedious, but it seems to work.

Alternatively, I'm thinking of using http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/geocoder/ to batch-export contacts addresses to GPX files, then import them as favorites in OsmAnd.

How do you do this?  I can't find a place to import anything except the current track, which is useless.
