Hi all,

I am quite new to OSMAnd, as I started to use it yesterday. Though in the past I have had experience with activating iGo on my Mio device, so I know, what I am talking about.

I have bought an Android smartphone last weekend, which I also want to use for cycling. I have read a lot on the internet, and read that OSMAnd is very good. I read lots of positive remarks related to cycling with OSMAnd.

I have activated the OSMStreetMap card from Belgium and Netherlands on my smartphone. But what I really miss are:
-The fietsknooppunten.
-And I also miss the routes between the fietsknooppunten. Though this is less relevant than the fietsknooppunten.

I have seen these on http://www.openstreetmap.org/. I want to have the light blue lines and the light blue numbers shown there, when havng activated layer Cycle Map, on the smartphone, offline.

Do you know, how that can best be done?

I have some ideas for getting the fietsknooppunten on the smartphone. Which do you think is the best? I have got a csv from the internet with coordinates for all the fietsknooppunten. For the iGo I have succeeded to convert those to KML. For OSMAnd I think another format is better.
-I can convert the coordinates in the csv into gpx and activate it as a track on the smartphone (not tried yet, maybe it is good)
-I can also convert the csv to points in a database using osmosis, which I do not know yet. Is it difficult?

Preferably I have a download somewhere with those knooppunten. And even better also with the routes interconnecting those fietsknooppunten. I do not like to go  to a site and make a track for generating a gpx for that track every time. In the end I want to have a smartphone having all fietsknooppunten on it, offline, so, that at any time, I can make a plan for following those fietsknooppunten.

In the end I liked Fiets! NL really a lot. Until I realised it does only work online. I want to have something like Fiets! NL that works offline.

Please can you tell me what is the best approach?

Best regards, Bernhard

I have just seen OsmAnd Map Creator. I think that will be the tool I need for this!

No, I don't like OsmAnd Map Creator as it generates raster. Then too much space is needed, while I only want the waypoints and perhaps the routes connecting the waypoints. I guess in gpx, for whole Netherlands, it will be less than 3 MB.

Please can you tell me what I can do best?

So:
-I prefer that somebody in the world has done what I want, and I can download a OSM database with this info
-Else I can create gpx
-Or I can create the OSM database myself. But I do not know yet whether that is diffult.

Thanks for any help,

Best regards, Bernhard

Hi,

Creating OSM database is not difficult, I suggest you first to read this https://code.google.com/p/osmand/wiki/HowToArticles (offline data, custom data).

Hello Victor,

Thanks for letting know, for this hint.
I now get the idea, reading the link you gave, that OsmAnd Map Creator might be a good choice for me, as it also generates vectors.

Best regards, Bernhard

Last night I started OsmAndMapTileCreator for integrating Cycle Data with a osm database got from GeoFabrik, at work.
Now, (when coming back at work) I see it is still busy with that, so I stopped the process.
I am very curious: If I would have let this process run, would I have got a map with vector data respresenting cycle paths, and maybe even the fietsknooppunten (cyclepoints)?

If so, are there options in OsmAnd to activate for instance these cycle data and deactivate the highways for cars?

Thanks for info,
Best regards, Bernhard

I have seen that on the internet there are OpenStreetMap data ready with the Cycle data. But those are in the format for Garmin (being .img-files)

I have seen GpsBabel (also used it for converting the csv with the fietsknooppunten to gpx, which succeeded).

My question is: Do you think there is a tool for converting that Garmin .img-database with the Cycle Map data into a database-format which can be used by OsmAnd?

Thanks, Bernhard

Did you already check <http://www.opencyclemap.org/> where you can download tiles?

Hello mr. Harry,

Thanks for your response.

I can imagine that http://www.opencyclemap.org/ can make the tiles. I have indeed seen the options to do that.

I even found out, yesterday evening/night, that, when having choosen the aprropriate configuration options in OsmAnd, OsmAnd itselves stores the tiles (in the tiles directory on the smartphone), while refreshing and being online.

This is quite good. However, (fyi, I also have Smallworld GIS background, and I know the difference between vector and raster), I prefer a vector solution. But your solution is quite ok.

Yesterday I also used OsmAndMapTileCreator. With that you can also generate the Cycle Map tiles, being another manner than you suggest.

So, I prefer a vector solution for the cycle routes, does anyone know whether that exists, or how it can be made?

Best regards,
Bernhard

Hi,

Please read that article https://code.google.com/p/osmand/wiki/CustomizeOBFFileContent. As far as I know obf already contains special bicycle tags and displays them with Hiking/Cycling rendering style.

Thanks for reply.

I have seen this as well.

I have the feeling the light blue and red lines and the cycle points from http://www.opencyclemap.org/ are not included in the standard obf. I agree that the bike paths you can see there when zooming in on http://www.opencyclemap.org/ are available in the obf.

I would really appreciate to have the light blue and red lines also in the obf as well. If I am in the position of being able to ask you whether you like that idea and can arrange that, that would be great!

Best regards, Bernhard

Hi!

I would really appreciate to have the light blue and red lines also in the obf as well.

These lines should be there, if you change the "Map style" to "Touring-view_(more-contrast-and-details)" and then activate "Show cycle routes".
You have to zoom in a little bit.

Max

Hello Max,

Also thanks for this answer, it is quite ok!

However, I have the feeling that only some of the light blue lines from  http://www.openstreetmap.org/ are made thicker in Show Cylce Routes. Though, I must  admin, I could not find "Show Cycle Routes" either, I hope you mean "OSMC traces view", do you?

Ok, I just discovered OpenFietskaart (NL). Those are tiles, with only(!) the light blue and red lines and all that you see on http://www.openstreetmap.org/ as well. No more, no less, so in fact exactly what I want. The only disadvantage (but I can live with that) is that those are rastertiles, and not vectors. Fun is, if you show OpenFietsKaart (NL) with good transparency options, it looks really great for this purpose. So, it is a raster, but all parts being "empty" are, I guess, totally transparent, which is very good.

Related question: Suggest I want to go to Italy for holiday with bike, is there a site like OpenFietsKaart (NL) for Italy as well?

Anyway, Thanks for your answer,

Best regards, Bernhard

Yes, cycleways are made a little bit thicker in Touring view, but cycle routes should be highlighted more than that.

No, OSMC is for hiking routes.
I mean "Show Cycle Routes".
You will have to use the latest development version of OsmAnd or the latest Touring renderer and you have to switch to bicycle mode.

Hello Max,

That is very good news! That's really great

I already like the tiles with bicycle info, that I discovered yesterday, but it is having some disadvantages which you all know, so I will not repeat those and explain why your mail is so great. For sure I can live with the tiles for next period.

Sorry for bothering, but can you also give a hint in how to activate the developer version of OsmAnd? I guess, if I go to Play Store, I can download the OsmAnd. Is it true I need to search for OsmAnd Developer Version, or something like that, via Play Store? Or do you imply I need to activate OsmAnd+? (Not really a problem, but if you can confirm that, that's great)

Thanks,
Best regards, Bernhard

Hello Max,

Ok, while surfing on the internet indeed I found that the options you are referring to are available via OsmAnd plus. I guess cause of management issues found in other discussions I can not activate OsmAnd plus today, but I have to wait some days, but I have really the idea that this solves all.

I am also curious whether OsmAnd plus will also show the Walking Tracks from http://www.openwandelkaart.nl/. That would really be great we well!

Thanks for info,

Best regards, Bernhard

Now it should be available in every version (normal, plus and dev).
