I just bought Osmand for my android phone and downloaded the US map and the Florida map but they don't have house numbers so I can only navigate to intersections.  How do I get US maps with house and building numbers?

OsmAnd uses only OSM maps. Those are maps made by volunteers and other free data. The quality of the region differs a lot from place to place. Some places have every tree on the map, some places don't even have the roads.

You can always help out by adding data on http://osm.org (just register an account and you can edit the map). You can also check the data quality of different places on that site.

So if the numbers aren't on the map, it's because nobody added them yet. The philosophy around OSM is that, if everyone adds his own street, the entire world is mapped in no time.

Sander

I'm sorry my original post wasn't more clear - None of the streets in have house or building numbers.  I assume I don't have the correct map downloaded but when I look through the maps available there aren't any others to choose from.

I found your original post very clear and, unfortunately, Sanderd17's answer is correct: Address data for most the the United States is missing in OpenStreetMap and the maps for Osmand are generated from OpenStreetMap data. So Osmand maps of the US usually not have the street numbers for your destination.

You can help fix that by editing the OpenStreetMap data for your area. I've added residential address information for much of the small city that I live in and after I go shopping I use the addresses that are usually on the receipts to add the store and address information into OpenStreetMap. When I visit some place I try to collect at least a few addresses around where I am staying.

In some areas the local governments are releasing address data with copyright permissions compatible with OpenStreetMap and some volunteers have been importing those. That type of import adds addresses a lot faster than the walking about that I do.

In any case, address information for the US is being added and Osmand attempts to issue new maps about three times a month. So address information should eventually show up. And if you add addresses in OpenStreetMap you are likely to be able to use that information in Osmand within a couple of weeks.

I have to "third" what the others have said.  The problem is not Osmand--the problem is that the OpenStreetMap database doesn't have the information.  OpenStreetMap is not owned or maintained by the Osmand developers, it is an independent organization that is operated by volunteers.  House numbers are missing for almost every city in the U.S., except where people have had time to add them.

You would have the same problem is you tried to use MapFactorNavigator, Cruiser, or any other navigation program that used the OpenStreetMap database.  The house numbers are simply not in OpenStreetMap, so Osmand, MapFactorNavigator, and the others _can't_ navigate you to them.

If there are some specific addresses that you are interested in, I might be able to help you get them added to OpenStreetMap (a very short list, I have other things in life to do!), and you would then see them show up in a new Osmand map update a couple or three weeks later, depending on timing.

Even better would be if you tried to add some of them yourself, but I certainly understand if you don't have time time or computer knowledge to do so.  (There are OpenStreetMap volunteers who try to help new people, and it really isn't very difficult.  I'm not trying to say that you have to add address information for entire cities.  If you were to just add a dozen or two places that interest YOU, then you'll have made the map better for everyone.)

It's not very difficult to get started (see http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Beginners%27_guide). Even if you only feel comfortable adding the houses on your street or the local shopping center, that will help. You'll be able to see satellite imagery from Microsoft as you map to help you know where to click.

OpenStreetMap is the result of thousands of little edits just like that.

Sincerely,
