Since no one answered you yet here is the answer (assuming you have a touch screen phone). 1. Make sure you have set OSM username/password in OsmAnd settings. 2. On any point in map press (touch) and hold for about 1 second. This will create a bubble showing latitude and longitude. 3. Press on the bubble, a menu opens. 4. In the menu press on 'Create POI' 5. In the dialog that opens provide all the relevant information and press commit button.
If your data connection is on the POI will be committed directly to OSM. Otherwise it will be saved to a local DB on SD card. You can upload such local POI later from Settings -> General Settings -> OSM Editing -> Locally saved OSM POIs/Bugs.
You also have option to always save POIs offline so that you can upload a bunch of them together ex. you create POIs on a tour when you don't have data connection and then you go home and upload all POIs.

From another site I found that if you prepare a .gpx file of Waypoints and save it in the Osmand root directory you can Import it into Favorites. Weirdly it has to be named favourites.gpx.
On the Osmand FAQ it states that you can import a gpx file to Osmand/tracks. But Osmand does not generate a tracks subdirectory and when I placed a file in a tracks subdirectory there was no sign of it in the programme or any way to access the data Where should it show up anyway?
But Inkar: you say set OSM Username/passowrd in Osmand settings. When I go to settings there is no obvious location to set up such a user detail. Can you provide more detail.
Certainly the inability to import Waypoints is a current shortcoming that I hope my payment for the Pro version will go a little way towards resolving :)

Did you try the module manager in Osmand's settings?
There you have to enable the point that you can edits to the OSM server.
Then settings are advanced where you can enter username and password for OSM uploading.

Thanks Stephen. I managed to work out how to get to the username and password in Osmand+ as follows
Settings/Plugin Manager (there was no modul manager)
"switch on" Advanced Settings and OSM Editing. tapping on these will change the little light from grey to orange (a tick box would be more intuitive).
Now go back to Settings/General Settings
scroll own and there are additional entries including a subheading "OSM Editing".
In this subsection is "Your OSM user name", and 'Your OSM password"
I just filled them in with a new user name and a new password.
