I just updated to OsmAnd+ 1.9 and it kept warning me about stops signs but it was warning me about stop signs that either weren't there at all or were facing the other way. So 2 question
1. Whats the best way to tag a stop sign (on OpenStreetMap) so that OsmAnd doesn't worn me about signs that don't apply to me?
2. Is there anyway I can get OsmAnd to show where the stop signs are on the map like it does with traffic signals? This would be great for surveying

PS I don't just want to turnoff the warning and there are a few different ways to tag stop signs on OpenStreetMap I'm only interested in know what will work best with OSMAnd

I think this problem is not even solved in the OSM database yet. There is no decision how to map which direction the stop sign applies to. So the current state is, that a routing application should choose the direction to the nearest intersection (junction). But I think OsmAnd doesn't do this yet.

This does not appear to be true.

http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:highway%3Dstop

highway=stop at the point where the stop is to occur
direction=forward/backward to indicate which traffic flow direction has to stop relative to the direction of the way
Status: De facto

Insert a highway=stop node on the approach way(s) that must stop, at the stopping point.

Since the stop line on the approach applies to only one travel direction, that direction can usually be deduced by finding the shorter distance to the priority intersection. However, a few stop signs are on 2-way streets between closely-spaced junctions, making it necessary to identify the travel direction that stops. Where needed, this can be done using direction=forward or direction=backward, relating stop direction to OSM forward/backward of the way that contains the highway=stop node.

I would love to see this implemented more cleanly in OsmAnd, as currently, when driving through Chicago, it isn't uncommon to have the stop sign indicator incorrectly alerting for large swathes of the drive.

We should move to formalize this standard so we can get some kind of consistency.  I'm actually amazed nearly 4% of the nodes in the database are highway=stop and there's yet a solidified formal solution to this beyond all-way stops.
