What is the different between .obf and .pbf file?

No difference just renamed. Pbf is not used ! It is deprecated I don't know where you find it.

Maybe you are asking the difference between pbf files from OSM project (geofabrik downloads).
These are different formats. Previously, the obf files where name pbf, and just because of this
similarity and possible confusion, the pbf was renamed to obf for osmand. Obf is completly
osmand specific binary format focused on needs for osmand itself to hold minimum data required
and as many precomputed things as needed.

Thanks for the description, Pavol. I changed it a bit and created a
page on the wiki about file formats:

We had a request from the mapsforge project to document the .OBF
format. This wiki page would be a good place to do that.
