Is there any way of deleting POI custom filters?  There doesn't seem to be anything in the UI that I can see.  I hunted around in the data files to see if I could spot where they might be stored so I could try to edit the file, but didn't find anything.

In the end I uninstalled Osmand, deleted all data except for maps and reinstalled.  Surely there has to be an easier way?

Yes, there is definitely an easier way. Custom filters are not maintained via the map layer options, but via searching. In the map layer you can only switch them on or off.
In the search screen long-click your filter and you'll see an option to delete it in the bottom-right.

Ah, I didn't think of trying a long-press in that screen. Thanks very much.
