Converting Shape file into OSMAND obf format.

I need to convert a shape file to obf format for using it in osmand application. The method I followed was first converting the shape file into OSM and then the OSM to obf format. The first part was done in Merkaartor. It converted the shape file into OSM. I opened the osm file in Qgis and Arcgis and checked it. The problem is with the second part. Normally osmand map creator converts a osm file to obf format. I have done this previousily many times. Now when i give the osm file generated using merkaartor to osmand map creator, it shows the error "exception during operation". I am attaching the screenshot of the error. Can anyone please tell me an option to rectify the error. Is there any other alternative way to convert a shape file into osmand obf format.

Can you open the OSM file with a text editor? The second line should be

<osm version='0.6' generator='xxx'>

If this is not the case, please add it.

If this didn't help, can you give us an extract of the osm file? some lines at the beginning and some lines at the end will probably be enough.

There is one new problem. I created the obf file using osmand map creator. The obf file when oppened in android device shows nothing. What are the possible problems. Why it is showing blank.

Try to use binaryInspector.bat tool from OsmAndMapCreator to print all information from obf file. (Use -vmap option).

You have to run it via the commandline interface of Windows.

Choose the Windows start menu, choose "execute" or similar and type "cmd" to start that window.
