Hello,

I'm new to OsmAnd. Want to use it for GPX files with waypoints. Each waypoint is a stop along the route, so an announcement is needed when each waypoint is reached. Right now, I'm only getting turn announcements and an announcement when I reach the final destination. I don't even get a "turn around" announcement when I get off track.

Is there a configuration that I am missing? Is there another way to enter these waypoints so that they will be announced? Why doesn't it tell me to make a U turn when I go past a turn? I get the U turn symbol, but no voice announcement.

I've tried it using the en-tts voicepack and the en-us voicepack.

Thank you,
Rick

The tts-voice-packs are usually more complete, the recorded voice packs are frequently missing expressions.

I had a quick look at en-tts, which is our reference file, and it has phrases in there ok like "... and arrive at you waypoint" or "you have reached your waypoint." Also, if you enable the "OsmAnd Developtment" plugin, then go to "General Settings/Test Voice Prompts", I get the waypoint announcements (for en-tts)  all right, can you confirm?

I am not sure, though, I have ever tested these particular prompts in "real life situations", so if they fail then, it may be a bug, you could report it for us as an issue in googlecode.

Thanks,
Hardy

I went into the "Test Voice Prompts" I have the make U turn in there. I never heard it though. There is one called "Arrive at intermediate point" that says "arrive at your waypoint". What is the difference between an intermediate point and a waypoint? Do I need to have my waypoints coded differently in my GPX file?

Thanks

Hi Rick,

as far as I remember, we now always use "waypoint".  "Intermediate point" is deprecated everywhere, the only occurrence was left in our test codes for the voice propmts. I have corrected it there now (in the latest nightly build). I have also added a test button for the "You have reached your waypoint" prompt to that test code, it had been missing.

But functionally: I have tested ALL propmts using the en-tts, and they all sounded all right. (Including te "U-tur n propts you mention above")

But reading your note above again, I think the issue may be the following: The waypoints the prompts are about are the ones you add to your navigation via the funtion "Set as destination" (available in the Favorites menu, the context menu on the map screen, the search menu, etc.) or "Add as waypoint" in the map context menu. These are the ones we formerliy referred to as "intermediate points".

It sounds to me like you are talking about <waypoints> you have in your GPX file (and possibly you are even talking about "route according to a GPX file", right?). I am not sure if waypoints in GPX files are currently honored equivalewnt to waypoints added to a navigation via "set as destinatinon" or "Add as waypoint".

Although I guess they could...  If you can confirm that this is exactly the issue you have, maybe you can open an issue on googlecode (http://code.google.com/p/osmand/issues/list)  so we can decide if this can be fixed as an enhancement.

Thanks,
Hardy

Rick, this is VERY interesting for me, or rather for my son (who is slightly disabled). I have made a route for him using my Garmin Oregon but would like to be able to add waypoints along this route with voice guidance. My goal is to make it possible for him to take longish walks all by himself, guided by voice assistance in OsmAnd. Could you please alert me if you get this working? If possible to Leif.Larsson(at)gmail(dot)com. Thanks in advance!

Seems I get notified automatically when someone posts here. Neat!

Hi Leif,

I am very anxious to get this working also. I submitted a bug report, but I haven't heard anything on it. Maybe with more than one person waiting on it, it will receive a higher priority.

Hi
I would like to avoid a little misunderstanding. There is a OsmAnd Waypoint (when the route is calculated passing that point) and a GPX Waypoint (which is imported from GPX file). The first one should work but the second was never implemented.

Regards,
Victor

Hi Hardy,
Any chance that "the second one" below might get implemented? It would be a huge feature enabling customising of the audio commentary on a route (biking etc.)?
