Hi,

From the searching I've done, it appears as if this question has been asked many time years ago but I'm hoping something has changed in the 7+ years since. I noticed that the OSMAnd app did not have my postcode listed when searching so, thinking that OSM pulls it's data straight from the Open Street Map site, I set up an account and spent an entire day mapping out buildings and adding full addresses and postcodes, tpe, opening hours to every building in my town. I cleared the cached OSMAnd data from my phone and set the app up again, expecting now to be able to search by postcode but still all of the new postcodes I entered are not found. I can see all the new buildings, names, types, etc that I added to OSM website so I know it's pulling the new info but despite assigning postcodes to every building, the postcodes do not show up in the app. Some do but they are a mile or more from the one I'm actually searching for. From that, I assume it is possible to enter postcodes somewhere that the OSMAnd app picks up but I'm clearly missing where if so.

Any pointers?

Thanks

I'm not sure about postcodes directly tagged in addresses, but an excellent workaround is the UK postcode map. See here: https://groups.google.com/g/osmand/c/HA-Q8XMvm_U/m/erGCmq-7CQAJ

Hi @Cal90,

It depends on which maps you are actually using. I use the downloadable maps which are for offline use, and are updated monthly. Because they are updated monthly, in an extreme case, it can be over a month before a postcode I have added to OSM is actually searchable in Osmand. In example, if I added the postcode AB12 3CD on the 2/1/2021, on the 1/2/2021 Osmand downloads the new OSM database and creates the new maps. For me, the new map will only be downloadable about the 12th Feb, so it will not be searchable for about 6 weeks from the date I added it.

If you're using the online tiles, I can't really help, as I've never done that.

Regards

Nick

Hi Nick,

Currently there are some hundred thousand postcodes in the UK OSM data.
My latest POI file contains 1.76.0654 postcodes (so slightly more ;) ) for the United Kingdom taken from Chris Bells (Doogal) website which contains a full list of UK postcodes with their lat/lon, including inactive ones. I strip the inactive ones from the total list and convert them to OsMand POI format and then into an OBF

Hi Harry,

I've been a long time user of your postcode file, and I hope you keep producing it, as it is very useful to me and others.

I was answering purely in relation to the postcodes within OSM (which it is good to have), and when they will actually appear within OSMand.

Regards

Nick
