Hi

Recently noticed that application is crashing without the reason.
It can just crash if you try to open maps, then return to the main screen and try to close from x cross.

Also it is crashing when changing the device orientation.

Couple of days ago it crashed during the route calculation too.

Often it is crashes when it is running in free drive mode with offline navigation enabled and I am picking the incoming call. After that if I try to return back it is necessary to start everything over.

Areg

Please always  attach some kind of evidence either exception.log from osmand folder or a file from LogCat.

Thanks
Victor

Hi Victor

I done one test this morning and I am not quite sure about the results.

1. Started LogCat (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=scd.lcex) and started recording.
2. Started OsmAnd, opened the map, enabled Sleep Mode with continuous GPS Tracking.
3. Pressed the home button to make a call - when I come back to the OsmAnd the Sleep Mode was disabled but the "Switch off background navigation mode" notification with icon remains on notification bar. It was possible to get rid of notification only after enabling and disabling Sleep Mode again.
4. There are no error messages in OsmAnd exception log, hope you can find the necessary information in LogCat attached files ...

Also I noticed if I am trying to close the App while the background navigation is enabled I am getting the warning message but the background service icon remains in notification area and only way to turn it of to open app and enable and disable Sleep Mode. Also after this when I tried to close app it closed and opened itself back, second exit try closed app.

P.S. Could you please let know which LogCat you are using?

Regards,
Areg

I hope now that exception is gone.
BTW : I think exception.log was enough :)

Victor

Hi

I seen the same problem again and seems managed to reproduce it and capture the LogCat.

Please see attached file.

To reproduce I done the following:

1. Opened OsmAnd, enabled Background Service.
2. At some point got mail and opened it
3. Opened the link from the mail, navigated a bit and OsmAnd vanished with the message in LogCat: "02-08 08:45:02.880: I/ActivityManager(1976): Process app.processName (pid 3578) has died."

After this the Background Service notification icon left in Notifications are and there is no exception log.

Areg

I don't this is crashed. I think the application killed by Android OS because application is very heavy.
In that case icon will stay and I  don't know how to fix this problem... Probably next startup we can clean all present icons.

Best Regards,
Victor

Hi

This sounds reasonable.

In this case I need to somehow prevent it from closing.
Probably making OsmAnd system app?

> I seen the same problem again

This is a different issue, because in this case, Android killed
OsmAnd.

> 2. At some point got mail and opened it

Since that time, OsmAnd is in background mode and Android kills apps
in background, if Android wants to free up system resources (memory).

Maybe we should set the service to foreground mode, so that it is more
unlikely, that Android kills OsmAnd?

OsmAnd service uses "setForeground", but this seems not to work
anymore with your Android version:
"02-08 08:43:31.855 W/Service ( 3578): setForeground: ignoring old API
call on net.osmand.plus.NavigationService"

Which Android version is your phone running?

Max

Support for new foreground API has been added:
https://github.com/osmandapp/Osmand/pull/408

A foreground service will almost never be killed (according to Android documentation).

Please test!

Max
