If I go to http://www.toposm.com/us/index.html and look at the topo maps in the region of Oregon in which  I am interested, I see much more river detail than in Osmand+ (I have the topo plugin, of course and have downloaded the map.   I also have high-detail-topo set.  The contour lines are displaying.
If fact, whole river systems are missing.   Any idea why that is?

That site seems to use USGS data which is more complete --- I thought it was OSM.  Where does OSMand topo information come from?  Too bad it has such poor river data.

Regardless, I can't get the app to consistently display rivers.  I play with the settings to no avail, then they show up, then they go away.  No rhyme or reason.

Keep replying to myself.  Turns out it is a combination of selecting touring mode and the proper zoom level.

I guess OSM river data just sucks in some areas.

Please check e.g. on openstreetmap.org if the river systems you are looking at are in OSM at al or we have a map data issue.

We also have the oppisite feedback, that e.g. in Colorady many more creeks/rivers are displayed whiche are usually dry. There have been mass imports of Us water data in OSM, I have never researched their consistency.

Please also know that in OsmAnd the name of the map style "High detail topo" is somewhat mislading. This map style does not show any more topo detail than the "Touring View" (the map style I personally maintain to be most complete). High detail topo likely yields the same amount of detail, have not checked ölately, but it primarily displays the maps more like the topo maps published for many countries, does not accentuate roads / tracks / paths quite as much as needed for the average traveler.

Not sure if we need to slightly rename "High detail topo" a bit ... maybe someone has a good idea.

Thanks, Hardy

I went to openstreetmap.org and what Osmand displays agrees with their display.  So, OSM data is lacking in some areas.

I arrived at the same conclusion about rendering, the Touring View has the most information.
