Anyone recommend a good gpx creator that allows osmand bike navigation? And what format should the gpx be exported as?

I always use Routeconverter from routeconverter.de.
Creates route, track and waypoint gpx files.

And last week I tried Offroad, the desktop port of OsmAnd. It works but still needs some finetuning. But it is of course still in beta.

What is wrong with Brouter, either Android application  either Brouter-web ?
Supposing you going to follow OSM ways.

GPX from Brouter always worked for me in OSMAnd,
even if LocusMap, specially PRO version,  has more sophisticated GPX following.

Thanks. Good tip. For osmand do I want route, track or waypoint?

You want route or track. OsmAnd can handle both.

Tracks are in general the most common gpx files.

Thanks. I'm guessing since track has more data points it will be followed better by osmamd? At the minute the osmand route planning doesn't follow the gpx import well at all and takes me round in lots of circles

Is the track prepared manually by few/ some dozens points, or generated
by an online router ?
Isthe track off-the-OSM-ways, or on-the-OSM-ways ?
Are you supposed to be guided from a point to a point by a course way ?
Are you supposed to be navigated by routing engine from a point to a point ?

Another (pc) option to create GPX files is Justmapzz
You can draw GPX tracks from scratch or convert calculated routes to GPX files.
It has a complete editor and track optimizer.
To import the track into Osmand, copy the track file to the Osmand tracks folder.
