Screen does not stay on

Hi,

Osmand 3.4.8 + Android 9 + Sony Xperia XZ1 compact (G8441):

I have set "activate screen for 30 seconds" and "repeat navigation command every 5 min.".
This works, when I switch the screen off manually,
but when I start the navigation with screen on, I expect it to stay on,
which does not happen. After some minutes the display is dark.
Maybe Android system setting "screen idle after 2 minutes" overrules
the setting of Osmand?

Any help is appreciated!

By the way, what a about a function that keeps the screen on,
when you approach the destination?

Hi,

Sadly no solution but I noticed a similar problem yesterday with 3.4.8.
I started driving with the screen on, after a while (10-15m ?) the screen went dark.
Since i was driving a motorcycle this was a big problem (cant operate the screen with gloves, and you dont want to do that driving 120km/h anyway).
But then the screen came back on, but it was basically alternating between the lock screen with a text instruction on where to go next, a blank screen and a map screen where the orientation flipped (probably caused by coming from the lock screen ?).

Not sure if this is a bug or a feature, but I really need a way to keep the screen active ( I think this was one of the first times I used the 3.4.8 for navigation as i was using an older version before which did not have this behaviour ).
Is there any setting to control this ? The options under 'Turn Screen On' in navigation settings to only go from never to 60 seconds, there is no always on option (or so it seems)... ?

From my experience it stays on as long as osmand doesn't loose focus or the power saver is not enabled without a power supply. Osmand looses focus after incoming call and starts to work in a background mode i.e. the screen goes off and lights up only before a maneuver (if you enabled that). This actually can be handy on a long boring motorway ride. You may bring it up by waving a hand above the device (if you enabled the proximity sensor).

I did not have anything interrupting it, and my battery was full (well maybe 98-99% or something since i had been using it for 15m). The power saver you mention is it a power saver of osmand or of the phone ?
And for me it behaved as you described in the past, the blank screen or lock screen directions is only now since i upgraded (i use the fdroid version and for some reason it did not see updates so i was behind a few versions). In the return trip I used waze without any issues (meaning it stayed on) so i think it is osmand specific. The proximity sensor might be nice but i fear it will be blocked by the thing in which the phone sits on the bike (mine is not water proof so it is inside a bag thingie with transparant plastic on the front, dont know the english word for it)

I referred to the device power saving feature.

Just give it a try. I'm using  RAM-type mount and although my device is not waterproof either I noticed I move faster than rain in any condition ;) It sits behind my windshield, which protects it enough while riding.
