Hi,

I see a lot of activity around Osmo in the developments and the settings. The nightly builds refer to an empty site osmo.mobi, which links to a completely russian site osmodroid.com.
As Russian is not one of my languages I needed google translate to make up what it was. Of course this gives a crippled translation (english the best, going worse from german to dutch).
It seems like a personal tracker, so that when you give people a  "personal" link they can always see where you are from a browser.
Even though it is currently being created as a plugin, it seems a little bit scary to me (big brother is watching you).

From the crippled translation I get the impression that it is a tracker in russian (only for russians?).

Can someone please explain?
Is it a replacement of the osmodroid app or only a plugin to connect to the osmodroid app? Please note that this is very important for me. If it needs the osmodroid app I feel safe without it on my phone. If it is a replacement I certainly don't want it on my phone inside OsmAnd.
And why is it useful in OsmAnd?

Harry

Hi,

this is what I understand from OsMo source code:

It seems like a personal tracker, so that when you give people a  "personal" link they can always see where you are from a browser.

You have to enable the OsMo plugin, register your device and start the tracking service, if you want to use this service with OsmAnd and want to be tracked and track other users.
After that you can join a group, all group members can see each others position on the OsmAnd map.
It seems to be possible to send signals/messages to other users within your group.
Is seems to be possible to navigate to a user, shown on the map, maybe also as a moving destination.
It is possible to read some device information (battery status).

Is it a replacement of the osmodroid app or only a plugin to connect to the osmodroid app?

I don't know, if it is a replacement, both seem to use the same server and both seems to be compatible to each other.

Max

Hi,
I am new to this community and this seems like an interesting feature to me.
Thanks for the information.

I hope this doesn't get integrated into Osmand as a replacement for the current functionality to set my own parameters. I like the ability to store my grid coordinates on my own website and not that of some third parties.

Currently "Logging services & Sleep Mode" and "OsMo (Advanced Live Monitoring)" are two different plugins.

I don't know, if there are plans to remove "Logging services & Sleep Mode".

Loss of possibility to use own server/website would be bad, I think.

Max

So http://osmo.mobi/ is online now ... what to do now :-)

Anyone practical experience yet?
