Version: OsmAnd+ 0.8.0 from Android Market

I was testing some translations I did for Marathi language. While translations are being displayed properly, I noticed that all the numerals are English. Is this a coding mistake or does Android not support non-English numerals?

Thanks,
Onkar

Which numerals do you mean? (Screenshot)

Probably android and locale related?

Check the attached screenshot. Check the zoom level shown at right bottom corner (100 meter). While the text is localized the numerals are not. The issue is seen in all numerals.

What they should look like
Check Symbols section on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hindu-Arabic_numeral_system
The symbols for Devnagari script should be used (this script is used by Marathi, Hindi and few other languages).

I don't think the issue you mentioned is related. But I can not say much since that issue does not contain any screenshot.

As the translation from Arabic numbers (the ones we use) to Hindu-Arabic numbers is one-to-one, I don't think this is a big issue. Aren't most people in India able to read Arabic numbers?

I don't think this should be changed, and I think it's an Android issue (although there could be found a way around it when really needed, but that would cause a lot of work).

@Hardy,

The clock is displayed in Arabic digits because there is no option in my phone to select 'Marathi' as display language for whole interface.

@Sanderd17

>> Aren't most people in India able to read Arabic numbers?
Yes they are. But if we use that logic then the application does not need be translated to languages other than English because anyone who uses Android must be sufficiently familiar to English language already.

If this is an Android issue (which we haven't yet conclusively proved) then I will take the complaint to Android forum. Until then let's keep this topic open.
